3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle, pours dark with nice head. Aroma is mild but vanilla is prominent. Decent stout but not as much "bite" to it. Vanilla is balanced well.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The body is dark brown, almost black in color, with a thin creamy tan head. Its head slowly fades to a wispy thin covering that makes nice lacing on the glass. Its aroma has hints of dark roasted malts with notes of chocolate, caramel and vanilla. It starts off very sweet with deep roasted malt flavor that has hints of chocolate and caramel. A mild touch of vanilla mingles with sweet malty flavors up front but seem to clash a little bit with the hops presence that comes out towards the finish. The finish has a solid hop bitterness with hint of the vanilla still lingering. (Also this vanilla flavor kind of reminds me of the vanilla flavoring in Vanilla Coke.) The texture is wet, slick and a bit thin with a medium body and fizzy soda-like carbonation. I would say that this is an interesting beer but I an not really sure that I like the vanilla flavoring and so for me drinkability suffers. For me it seems to close to bitter vanilla cola.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
[Bottle] Deep brown pour without much head. Cocoa powder, vanilla extract and earthy malts in the nose. More vanilla, chocolate, brown sugar and light coffee in the taste. Balance was OK. Vanilla flavor lingers in the finish. Tasting notes from 12/2011.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A- Pours a deep black color with a huge, fluffy, brown head that leaves tons of lacing as it goes down.
S- Sweet, roasted malt, vanilla, possibly some coffee hints.
T- Lots of roasted malt up front with a wave of milky vanilla that comes on, a little thin toward the end.
M- Medium body, medium carbonation.
D- This was a very enjoyable brew. Glad I got it as an extra. This is a local that I would recommend anyone in the area to check out.

Vanilla in this beer is apparent though not overwhelming. Some chocolate, some roastiness. Overall, a weak attempt.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark brownish-black color with a medium light beige head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and vanilla. Light-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, sweet vanilla and a touch of coffee. The finish is sweet with a chocolate malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(From Notes) Pours a dark brown, cream colored head. Head dissipates to a thin layer. Excellent lacing. Heavy malt aroma. Full tasting, sweet malt taste. Nice mouth-feel, definitely a winter beer. Not tasting the vanilla though. Has a coffee taste, which is rather pleasant. Good drink-ability in its class.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a Unibroue snifter. Poured a clear, dark red-brown color but ends up opaque and nearly black in the glass. The short off-white head had moderate retention and leaves little lacing on the glass. The sweet aroma is of roasted malts, natural vanilla, toffee, and caramel. Some alcohol appears after warming. The taste is malty with a pronounced vanilla flavor: A bit overdone IMO, but certainly not unpleasant. The result is a vanilla flavored milk stout. Hops are detectable, but too low to make this seem like a typical American stout. A bit too sweet and syrupy. Smooth and creamy, with a near-medium body that is not as full as it ought to be. Low-medium carbonation. Finish is slightly dry and sticky.
O: If you like dark beers with a good bit of vanilla, this one’s for you.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Notes from 12-21-2008
12oz bottle poured into glass. Very dark black color with foamy brownish head. Only a slight amount of light gets through the beer. Head turns rockier as it slowly dissipates. Cannot pick up much aroma besides the hints of vanilla. Also hints of malts. Good taste, strong chocolate malts present, caramel tastes also. Of course vanilla. Not much carbonation, full body. Overall a great new beer from Saranac, has some room to improve but still something to sit back in the winter and enjoy.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours dark brown with medium brown highlights and fluffy beige head. Pretty good lacing, thin body, medium carbonation, and sweet vanilla aroma. Taste is roasted malt, caramel, some off vanilla, hint of dark chocolate, and light bitter hop finish.
