Saranac White IPA is a tasty innovative twist on a traditional IPA. We’ve taken a delicious American IPA bursting with Citra hops, and given it a whole new direction by adding the refreshing fruitiness of orange peel & coriander and the softening characters of wheat malt and oats. You’ll notice the complex hop flavor you’ve come to expect in an IPA, balanced with the extraordinary bright flavor of a wheat beer. Cheers to twisting tradition!

Bottle from Archive Beer Boutique June 2013. Amber colour with a big head. Citrus and fresh floral aroma. Flavour is good with a long resinous aftertaste.

Hazy yellow, tons of bubbles, with a one-finger foamy white head and ok lacing. Aromas of citrus hops with gentle pale malt and spices. Flavors are similar, with the pale malt making a more substantial contribution, followed quickly by a moderate bitterness that pokes through, accompanied by a light spiciness. Light body, tons of carbonation, prickly mouthfeel and a crisp finish.

I was told it is a wheat IPA. What is that? I asked myself. It is really weird to have an IPA appearing a whit haze body in the glass. Anyway, an interesting beer.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass and a mug and wasn’t much difference. The appearance was basically a light hazy white to yellow color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing sticking finely to the glass. The smell had some oranges, grapefruit, lemons, and tangerines woven in between some light spicy hops. The taste was mainly sweet and still had a nice spicy connotation to it. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a pretty good sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp and crisp as I liked how it carried itself against my mouth and tongue. Overall, I say this was what FX Matt/Saranac wanted to do and I think they did exactly what they wanted to do. I’d have this again.

Profumo fresco e fruttato, si distinguono nettamente tutte le caratteristiche del luppolo. Resta profumata anche in bocca e dissetante. I 6 gradi alcolici non di avvertono.

Transfer from BA rated on 2-1-12 - Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a very thick and hazy light orange color. The particulates keep light from penetrating. Has the look of a pulp laden orange juice, but only with a lighter orange-yellow color. When poured it had a billowy white head, which faded over time, to give a fair amount of lacing; leaves a fine film on the top of the brew. Smell – The nose is heavy of lemon and orange up front. A nice citrus hop aroma blended in with a very light wheaty and yeasty like aroma. The smallest amount of pine hoppiness is persistent throughout, but very low in comparison to the others. Taste – The taste is much of a Belgian wit although there is more bitter and sour citrus mixed in with some wheaty maltiness as the backbone. The hoppiness of the aroma is stronger than it is in the taste, leaving some disappointment in “IPA” portion o f the brew. Some pine hoppiness does come in toward the end along with some coriander. Mouthfeel – Creamier then comparable IPA of similar strength, with slightly lower carbonation level. Overall it does have a gives comfortable and soothing feel on the tongue. Overall – An interesting beer, although I think too much Belgian wit and not enough IPA. A bit more spicy and piney hoppiness and a little less lemon would be more for me.

Bottle - A white IPA with spices but I don't taste the spices I normally would on a Belgium white. Unfiltered beer so there is a lot if sentiment. Can't tell if this is from the yeast or the slices, could be a combination of the two. More of a hops flavor than I was expecting, citrus notes on the pallet.
