COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saranac White IPA is a tasty innovative twist on a traditional IPA. We’ve taken a delicious American IPA bursting with Citra hops, and given it a whole new direction by adding the refreshing fruitiness of orange peel & coriander and the softening characters of wheat malt and oats. You’ll notice the complex hop flavor you’ve come to expect in an IPA, balanced with the extraordinary bright flavor of a wheat beer. Cheers to twisting tradition!

Not a good IPA. Falls short across the board. A below average beer from an average brewery. Better luck next time Saranac.

THOUGHTS: Way better than the Shock Top Wheat IPA. Rather complex. A lot better than I was expecting. Maybe not as easy to drink or as tasty as Sam Adams Whitewater IPA, but much more interesting. Not all that different from a Belgo-Cali IPA, but a little more citrusy. A little like Victory Headwaters and Blue Moon mixed with some better Belgian yeast. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a muddy, dark yellow with a small, slightly off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair to good lacing. The aroma contained wheat; moderate tropical fruit, passion fruit, earthy and citrus rind hops; lighter citrus hops; and funky, earthy yeast. The initial flavor was lightly sweet, slightly acidic and slightly bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet, lightly acidic and moderate to heavily bitter with a fairly long duration. There was peach, passion fruit, tropical fruit, earthy hops, wheat, citrus, spice and lots of yeast. The medium body was a little creamy up front and then rather dry with somewhat soft yet tingly carbonation and lightly metallic finish.

Bottle - average size think head, hazy pale straw color, mild citrus hop aroma and flavor with mild corriander notes - guess its supposed to be a cross between an IPA and a Belgin wit, misses a little on both accounts

Pours hazy gold into a Sam glass. White head with good retention recedes leaving trailing sheets. Lemon, yeast and wheat aromas. Crisp with stale yeast and sour lemon upfront turning to a bitter woody finish. Did not meet my aroma and appearance expectations.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a thick, white, long duration white head, with attractive lacing, over a cloudy yellow (SRM 3) body.......nose is heavy citrus, including orange and grapefruit, light malts, coriander.....taste is light malts, grapefruit, coriander, finishing with a lingering moderate bitterness.....mouth feel medium and soft, carbonation adds a tingle. This is an interesting beer, since it is a cross of the Belgian Wit and the IPA. It is relatively light, very refreshing, and comes across as a "summer ale". Unfortunately, the orange, Citra, and coriander dominate too much, so that many dimensions of aroma and flavor, which might be there, are hidden. BJCP 7/3/13/4/6
