Saranac White IPA is a tasty innovative twist on a traditional IPA. We’ve taken a delicious American IPA bursting with Citra hops, and given it a whole new direction by adding the refreshing fruitiness of orange peel & coriander and the softening characters of wheat malt and oats. You’ll notice the complex hop flavor you’ve come to expect in an IPA, balanced with the extraordinary bright flavor of a wheat beer. Cheers to twisting tradition!

Bottle; a nice looking dull, hazy gold. Aroma of wheat, citrus/coriander and some earthy hops. Flavor was a bit heavier on the ipa than wit component, but it worked fairly well. Some orange/citrus/spice notes gave way to a good dose of earthiness.

Bottle; the color was a dull, hazy gold. Aroma of wheat, yeast and earth. Flavor was drinkable and balanced, but somewhat lacking.

Gathering of the Vibes: Pours a copper color with a white head. Aroma is grapefruit, resin, orange, ad some light spiciness. Taste has moderate amount of hops, but balanced against the witbier sweetness. Surprisingly competent for Saranac.

355ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden amber, with lots of floating sediment and a smallish white head, which lasts reasonably well and leaves good lacing. Sweet orange peel combines with more aggressively citric hops, caramel malt and grainy wheat in the aroma. A touch of orange peel sweetness up front is soon overcome by strong grapefruit and resin hops, which are in turn softened by orange and coriander. Caramel malt and witbier softness sit uneasily together in the mid-palate, with coriander and citrus hops creating a slightly medicinal finish. This is an interesting combination of styles. The orange and coriander do blend very well with the IPA hops, but the witbier’s grainy wheat and the more robust malt of the IPA do not mix well, giving it a little bit of a confused feel. On the whole it’s quite good, but could be improved.

Pours a cloudy orange amber with a small white head that subsides to a collar but with good lacing. Aromas of lemon, spice and pine, but it’s all fairly light. Taste is hoppy up front with a decent hit of hop bitterness. That slips away leaving some yeasty characters with orange, melon, banana, lemon and clove coming through. Medium bodied. Refreshing and nicely balanced. Quite a well done IPA.

Decent sized frothy white head of fine bubbles. Reduces to a rocky top with light carbonation. Very light and airy aroma with some lemon, oranges, cereal grains and some cooked vegetable aromas. Color is a cloudy gold. Flavor is bitter up front then mellows out a bit to spicy hops. More lemon, straw, yeast and some herbal hops. Chalky mouthfeel from the yeast and wheat. Finishes bitter and lemony. An ok IPA.

Date tasted: June 14, 2013... Glassware: Chimay chalice... Occasion: Celebrating Will’s second violin recital, a successful "Come Little Children"... Appearance: fuzzy peach body allows a splotchy off-white head-unfiltered... Aroma: crisp, peachy citrus--coriander, grapefruit prevail--a nice overall sentiment.. Palate: light and refreshing with a tingle of substance--so light for an IPA--and little aftertaste... Taste: a mixture of flowers--soft hops really allow for a smooth, pilsner-like crispness... Overall: this beer presents an odd problem--it tastes so little like any other Saranac I’ve had, and that is saying something. The difference is not only noticeable but welcome! A refreshing and palpable spring/summer sipper--more of what I wish the Sam Adams summer/white ale offered....

Bready aroma with only a whisper of hops. Pours a hazy amber, with a thin white head. The orange, coriander, and wheat come through, with just a little bitterness in the finish. This comes across more of an American Wheat then a White IPA.

Mix of Belgium spices and hops. Not bad. I like this style a lot. Hop flavor a little too much like strait from the pellet.

Hmm, pretty much what it seems. Has some nice wheat flavors up front and than finishes fairly dry and IPA like. Somehow it kind of works. Has a wheat look - straw pour with barely a white head and not much lacing. Aroma is an equal balance of hops and orange notes. Interesting if anything!
