Saranac White IPA is a tasty innovative twist on a traditional IPA. We’ve taken a delicious American IPA bursting with Citra hops, and given it a whole new direction by adding the refreshing fruitiness of orange peel & coriander and the softening characters of wheat malt and oats. You’ll notice the complex hop flavor you’ve come to expect in an IPA, balanced with the extraordinary bright flavor of a wheat beer. Cheers to twisting tradition!

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2011 Dec. 16, 2011; on tap at "The Huddle On Main", Waterville, NY. Brand-new offering from Saranac, a hybrid of their IPA & Belgian White. Odd-looking, whitish (go figure!) beer (my wine-drinking companion likened it to dirty dishwater). :-) Ample head & sturdy lacing. Citrusy hops dominate this zesty beer, in aroma & flavor. Satisfying without being heavy. Strange combination, but this imaginative brew somehow transcends the sum of its parts. Looking forward to trying this again & rating at my leisure.

Rating continued Dec. 19, 2011: Sixers of this turned up in the local grocery store today; a chance to compare the bottled version to Friday night’s draft. Pour: cloudy, straw-colored "Boddington’s look; head & lacing less robust than the draft version. Aroma (nice!): grapefruit, herbs, spice; earthier as it warms up. Taste: Medium bitter, sour. Palate: Medium-bodied; some stickiness & astringency. Overall: Saranac brews tend toward being harsh & un-sweet. This is no exception; however, cutting the IPA with their Belgian White (Wheat) seems to have taken some of the edge off - creating in the process something probably more interesting than either brew individually - even if the lack of any serious malt presence in an IPA is slightly jarring.

Canned 355ml. -from Pivoteka Zagreb. Murky orange coloured, medium sized white to off-white head, mild coriander in the nose. Watermelon, spices, touch of vegetables (cellery or even carrot maybe) and some yeast with discreet notes of coriander and lots of sediment in the glass. Pretty high carbonation as well.

Can at Pivoteka Zagreb, shared with Hrabren and Jones. Hazy yellow body, creamy head. The aroma is pretty much melon or watermelon, sweet and subdued. Fruity taste, melon, peaches, apricot slightly candyish and mild, but fresh. Good but not great, not worth the price.

nothing distinctive except compared to what the Chinese make it was a brief oasis. 5,000 years of civilisation (their estimates) and they know nothing of beer. This IPA was mildly hoppy, clean and held a nice nose even after the Chinese government and the freight forwarders did everything wrong--deliberately--to ruin it. Some beer gets through the gauntlet unscathed. light palate, mild aroma, clear appearance, medium taste, very rounded, a very nice drop--al things considered.
