Really nice looking bone/ecru head, dense! Lovely dark color. The aroma is fresh and inviting, with cola notes and some dusty cobwebs. Too cold when I opened this, so the aroma is really suffering. The flavor is cola, slight brown sugar, and at least moderate sweetness. I’m looking for even a hint of anything bitter and I am just not finding it. Positively creamy body, seems nitroed! This is a very cola-type dunkel, very east european. Not my fave.

On Tap (Pint): Gives off a mild coffee & barely smell which also contains hints of caramel and possibly some nuts and very light vanilla. A nice cola like black with a tan head that is quite small but has good retention. A lot better to look at than a standard pale lager in my opinion. Similar in taste to the smell & a sort of mild Guinness taste. Coffee & barely being the main flavour with a burnt, light bitter finish. Nice and generally quite smooth. Not too heavy, more light to medium and very drinkable. A very nice beer that is smooth, pleasant & quite flavorful, definitely one I would try again. Reminds me a lot of Guinness, particularly in the taste department & probably the nicest beer I tried whilst in Slovakia. - - - - - /

Warning! Early amateur rating! Bottle in Bratislava. Dark lager. Light crisp start rapidly followed by a coffeeish bitter undertone. Dry finish. Very easy drinking. Nice.

This was my first (to my recollection) dark Slovak beer. Served with a fluffy, foamy, frothy, thick tan head that lasted and some lace. Color is a clear, dark garnet. Aroma is mild, roasty, dark malt, a little coffee, cocoa, & fruit. Flavor was the same with not too much sweetness. Reminds me a little of a black lager. Body is a tad light and has good carbonation. Finish is like flavor with short to medium length. Very easy drinking beer. Session

Bottle: Huge creamy, brownish head. Dark brown to black color. Malty, medium sweet aroma. Some notes of roasted malt, wood and molasse. Flavor is quite sweet, licorice, sugar, cola, malts, roasted and burnt flavors and a roasty bitterness in the end. Quite complex but all in all far to sweet for me.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2010 Huge cream-to-brownish head, very stable over deep garnet-brown beer. Thick roasted malts smell, melanoidins ŕ gogo, sweet, slightly woody. Sweet, liquorice-like with a burnt-metallic bittereness that doesn’t chase the syrupy sugarflavour. Chemical flavour that keeps hanging around. Quite slick, but light body. Way too sweet dull Dunkel. Many thanks to Lenka, Tom㚠and Peter.

Bottle, bought and drank in Kosice. Good roasted aroma. Very sweet flavor, with caramel, chocolate, and cola. Not very roasted at all. Creamy, too sweet, and also has some artificial flavor. Not at all good from the bottle.
