IslandHaole (1026), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Feb 7, 2008 Cranberry juice in color with a smallish off-white head. An interesting light sweet aroma, like the nougat in some filled chocolate sampler. You’re never sure just what flavor its supposed to be.
A "gimmick" beer to showcase the local main product, sweet potatoes. Rather uninspired but at least not offensive.
BückDich (4540), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 1, 2007 Bottle: Deep ruby color, nearly blood red, not quite purple. Light head and lacing. The nose is fruity, but it’s hard to pinpoint, some light floral notes and malt with a touch of vegetal notes. The flavor is balanced, not too sweet, not too dry, with a berrylike sweetness in the tail. Finishes dry though, and not too easy to drink. OK. aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA May 7, 2005 Bottle at Tokyo beer festival 2005. Deep purple and transluscent, reminding me of Bitter End’s pricklypear lambic. This stuff is based on sweet potatoes!! I didn’t get a lot of it in the aroma but it does come through interestingly in the flavor. An original try, but it just comes out bland and flat. Maybe potatoes just aren’t any good to make beer out of.
