2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle, best by May 2013, consumed in December 2012: Yellowish rust. Foamy, eggshell collar of bubbles. Repelling nose of Red Delicious apple, alcohol, brown sugar, and stewed peaches. Hints of hay dust and smoke. Fuzzy carbonation. Watery body. Initially bitterly hoppy with a palate-assaulting surge of scorched malt husks. Malt-deadening appley limpness and cola sugars exacerbate the flaccid maltiness. Excessively sweet, with a striking absence of malt vividness. Finishes with vague pumpernickel dusted with cocoa and coffee, but ongoing red apple flabbiness renders things wholly lifeless. Perplexingly dull and dirty.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
fresh bottle from the hands of the brewer. clear dark amber body with a short and small head. the aroma is an unpleasant bucket of perfume and fusel alcohols, and the odors of burnt pretzels, old pizza crust, and oat bran cereal entice the drinker to dive right in. solvent and hooch alcohol pepper and warm the tongue while flavors of sour apple and sweet pear juice cough syrup soothes the throat. holy heck, this is probably one of the dirtiest beers I’ve ever had in Germany. which is very sad to say because arriving by bike to the tiny village and finding the restaurant closed but the brew house open and occupied by the welcoming and friendly brewer in his awesome galoshes. he pulled a bottle that may have been 5 days old, was very appreciative of our effort to try his beer, and the moment was another on a growing list of polite gestures by these great German people, but it was all a setup, man! hey it happens to everyone. some breweries only make stinkers in the summer but rock hard in the winter and vice versa. some times you have less control over fermentation that you think.

Bottle @ Uncle Chris’ house in Fürth. Clear, dark golden appearance with a cream colored head. Toasted grain, light yeasty, slight grassy aroma but not too much going on. Sweet toasted grainy malty, lightly chewy, mild fruity, grassy, hay flavor. Ok.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
It’s dark amber with a small head, and the aroma has notes of caramel, malt and citrus. The flavour is light to moderately sweet with notes of caramel, roasted malt, citrus, and the finish is dry. It’s a bit weird and out of balance.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle picked up from the Brauerei Andreas Sauer, Gunzendorf, during Fin and Loz’s cycle ride around villages to the South and South East of Bamberg, Germany 19-06-10 consumed August 2010 Pours rusty amber colour with good clarity and a few shards of gold shining through, in fact this is quite a dark lagerbier. Lovely simple nose, sweet with cereal and malt aromas. Tasty but sweet also in the mouth, some lagery and caramel flavour’s combining. Tasty stuff and I’m quite surprised by the low ratings.
