Bottle. Very good brown. Medium body, lots of malt / nut flavors, smooth -- not over carbonated. Strong recommendation.

Sample from a bottle. Up front, caramel malt; good nuttiness. Touch of chocolate, mild earth. Prefer it to the neopolitan I just tried. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, mild bitter. Kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Clear red / brown color. Thin off-white head. Bits and ropes of lace. Decent brown ale, but a bit sweet in the end.

Rating #1213 31.07.2014 Bottle from Saugatuck. Dark brown pour with a weak bubbly tan foam that disappears quickly. Aroma is strong roast malts, coffee, chicory, campfire (smoke). Taste is bold earthy malts, with a light smokiness. Bitterness is fairly assertive. This is delicious.

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark brown with a thin tan head. Smoky aroma with hints of chocolate and nuts. Flavor is quite smoky but not overbearing. Light chocolate and bread malts with a slightly nutty finish. [9/10/15]

Tap at mellow mushroom new Albany. Smooth and great color with but of dark white head. Nose is malty and sweet. Smooth up front but bit of off-sweet notes makes you wonder what's going on there in the middle. Ok but not as good as bells brown or other Browns out there.

Excellent transition of flavor. Beautiful on the palate, as expected from this brewery. Delivers exactly as depicted on the label. This is overall a great tasting beer.

Enjoyable for sure. Nice heavy malt base but not overpowering to still be good for more than one. Heavy roasted notes, toffee, nuts, bit of smoky roast. Mild bitterness, lingering espresso and nut notes. Medium to full body.

September 8, 2014 - on draught at Craft Clapham - * my voice memo says Saugatuck Campfire Brown but it’s more than possible I was already drunk. Deep deep ruby-brown, slightly hazy, with a huge creamy/fluffy lasting beige head. Aroma - nutty, roasty, only a hint of smoke/kerosene - nicely balanced, light on the alcohol too. Taste follows - lovely, just the right touch of sweet maltiness to go with chocolate and light herbal/smoke notes - a real easy drinker. Average to light body, a little astringent, airy without being all that carbonated, finishes quick and slick with a whisper of kerosene in the aftertaste. Very nice!

355ml brown bottle. Medium brown colour with some orange highlights. Thin tan head with a creamy bead. Aromas of chocolate and roasted matls, some quick fading smokiness too. Taste has roasted malts, sweeter chocolate notes, nuts. Aftertaste has dark chocolate and roast. A decent brown ale, would have liked that smoke to come out a bit more though.

Classic brown ale that’s beautifully brown in color, rich in flavor with chocolate, toasted almonds/pecans, and just a hint of roasted malt; mildly sweet and very smooth on the palate. This is a very, very good brown ale and I’m really enjoying the 6-pack of it. Reminds me of quite a bit of Deschutes Black Butte Porter.

355 ml bottle. BBE 31.04.2015. [sic] (importer label)
Pours dark copper color with a large head. Smoky and nutty aroma, some toasted malts and sweet ripe fruity notes. Smooth creamy palate, caramel malts, toffee and nuts on the flavor, some chocolate, faint spice notes. Pleasant but maybe a bit too nutty though.
