Did you ever think a stout could ever find a place during the hot days of summer? Neither did I, until I tried this beer. Itís an ice cream parlor in a bottle. If that kind of thing appeals to you, this beer wonít disappoint.

This is pretty good. You can taste the strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla l at once and none of them really overpower another. They all mix well and itís very good.

Smells like strawberry ice cream, and it tastes like strawberry ice cream. Coming out in words it sounds like it should be weird, and to be completely honest if I read this I would think it was weird, but itís not. Itís great. Nice and sweet and creamy with a strawberry ice cream flavor. The longer it sits in your mouth you can kind of get the chocolate and vanilla. This is a good one!

(draft @ Saugatuck Brewing - Douglas, MI) Dark brown pour with a creamy tan head. Roasted malt aroma with some hints of strawberry and chocolate. Flavor is exactly like eating neapolitan ice cream. Chocolate moves to vanilla moves to a light strawberry hint at the end. Creamy and roasty.

Tap at Craft Beer Rising (London, 19 February 2015) Shows black ink with latte colored rims. The nose literally smells like neopolitan ice cream. All the flavors of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry are there. The palate is exactly the same with a strong emphasis on the strawberry. There is an extremely slight sweetness from the lactose but itís completely dry. This is definitely a dessert beer. Light coffee notes here and there where it finishes off the bitterness. Smooth and well carbonated. This is definitely a fun beer and nothing like it.

Thin, soft, creamy and nougat colored foam. A little flavor of dried fruits, but pretty quickly take over a fine aroma of good chocolate. The taste is like a good rich chocolate dessert. Not chocolate mousse but rather the flavor that one finds in the chocolate ice cream or a chocolate milkshake. Nice thick creamy filling and a small discreet taste of coffee with cream. Easy taste of alcohol knocking on the ednl. A super stout suitable for all types of desserts, perhaps best for desserts with soft fruit that can bring some fruit acid in the palate.

Bottled 11/06/13 and poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass. $2.69 single purchased at Fairway Sav-Mor in Eastpointe, Michigan. Appearance: Almost pitch black with a slight ruby tint. Seems to have excellent clarity (until youíre close to finishing your beer and notice yeast stuck to the bottom of the glass.) Tiny sand colored head floats on top and dissipates rather quickly, despite an aggressive pour. Not much lacing. Smell: Iíll be damned... smells like Neapolitan ice cream. Vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. The chocolate covered strawberry aroma is almost intoxicating. The vanilla is more in the background, but hey, itís vanilla... itís a pretty subtle thing. Quite sweet on the nose, as Iíd anticipate. Smells a lot like that Neapolitan astronaut ice cream, naturally. Taste/feel: First sip was the best sip, without a doubt -- tastes like I hoped it would... a good stout with all the flavors of Neapolitan ice cream thrown in. A sort of tangy sweetness on the front (probably from the strawberry), with a chocolate Frosty sort of flavor in the middle, and a roasty finish. As sweet as this smells, itís really quite nicely balanced and itís never cloying. The beerís not syrupy thick, and the mildly prickly carbonation makes this incredibly drinkable. Saugatuckís beers seem to widely be regarding as mediocre, but this is the standout among many... and I can see why. It tastes as advertised, and does a great job doing it. Like I said, the first sip is the best, but itís still damn good the rest of the way down. I could easily drink a decent number of these in succession and not get bored (from a lack of depth of flavor) or queasy (from too much alcohol, or syrupy sweet consistency). I nitro version of this beer may be too much for me to handle in terms of ridiculous awesomeness. If you see this beer, absolutely buy the hell out of it. This isnít just a sort of novelty beer -- itís a well-crafted one that any adventurous craft beer fan needs to try out. I especially recommend this brew if you like the taste of desserts, but donít so much care for the excessive sweetness they provide -- Neapolitan Stout has an excellent balance thatís sure to please... it truthfully offers everything it advertises, and MORE.
