4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottled 11/06/13 and poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass. $2.69 single purchased at Fairway Sav-Mor in Eastpointe, Michigan.
Appearance: Almost pitch black with a slight ruby tint. Seems to have excellent clarity (until youíre close to finishing your beer and notice yeast stuck to the bottom of the glass.) Tiny sand colored head floats on top and dissipates rather quickly, despite an aggressive pour. Not much lacing.
Smell: Iíll be damned... smells like Neapolitan ice cream. Vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. The chocolate covered strawberry aroma is almost intoxicating. The vanilla is more in the background, but hey, itís vanilla... itís a pretty subtle thing. Quite sweet on the nose, as Iíd anticipate. Smells a lot like that Neapolitan astronaut ice cream, naturally.
Taste/feel: First sip was the best sip, without a doubt -- tastes like I hoped it would... a good stout with all the flavors of Neapolitan ice cream thrown in. A sort of tangy sweetness on the front (probably from the strawberry), with a chocolate Frosty sort of flavor in the middle, and a roasty finish. As sweet as this smells, itís really quite nicely balanced and itís never cloying. The beerís not syrupy thick, and the mildly prickly carbonation makes this incredibly drinkable. Saugatuckís beers seem to widely be regarding as mediocre, but this is the standout among many... and I can see why. It tastes as advertised, and does a great job doing it. Like I said, the first sip is the best, but itís still damn good the rest of the way down.
I could easily drink a decent number of these in succession and not get bored (from a lack of depth of flavor) or queasy (from too much alcohol, or syrupy sweet consistency). I nitro version of this beer may be too much for me to handle in terms of ridiculous awesomeness.
If you see this beer, absolutely buy the hell out of it. This isnít just a sort of novelty beer -- itís a well-crafted one that any adventurous craft beer fan needs to try out. I especially recommend this brew if you like the taste of desserts, but donít so much care for the excessive sweetness they provide -- Neapolitan Stout has an excellent balance thatís sure to please... it truthfully offers everything it advertises, and MORE.

Totally unique! I never would have believed that you could combine chocolate, strawberry and vanilla in a single beer, but they did! Dark brown color with average head and body.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very good flavor. Coffee aroma, chocolate & vanilla flavored up front, and a kick of strawberry in the end. Perfect amount of strawberry. Too much gets too fruity, and this had just a hint of it to let you know itís there.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle served in shaker- poured a blacker than midnight even when directly held to a light source, dark tan head formed but went away after a few moments from the carbonation. Aroma is EXACTLY like Neopolitan Ice Cream- strawberries dominate but the vanilla and chocolate can be found rather easily, along with a darkly roasted malt. Hits the mouth with wide and thick body, malt was near burnt but the vanilla cancels that out, chocolate and strawberries in the middle, finish has a faint amount of charcoal, smoke, and ash. Fantastic brew- I just wonder how many pitchers of this I could throw back if I had it on draft!

Bottle. Dannnnggg this shit was good! Deep brown/black pour with a coffee colored head. Bam in the nose with expresso, chocolate, sweet candy, and roasty goodness. Hefty malt body in here, making this a sure winner. What a treat

On tap. Pours near black with a dark brown brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has notes of roasted malts and chocolate with a light strawberry and vanilla. Flavor starts with roasted malts and chocolate that mellow to let strawberry and vanilla. Works really well!

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the Saugatuck brewpub as Neapolitan Milk Stout. Brown with ruby lowlights and a medium tan head that leaves splotchy lacing. Aroma of strawberry and chocolate along with roasted malt and designer coffee. Taste is interesting with chocolate, strawberry and vanilla (thus the Neapolitan) along with lactose, roasted malt and mild bitterness. I really enjoyed this one!

Bottle from Pauly's. Pours charcoal in color with a brown head that leaves plenty of lacing. Smells as advertised, which is delightfully novel. Tastes of sweets malts, cream, and Netle Quik, the strawberry kind. Well executed.
