A refreshing sessionable pale ale made exclusively utilizing Cascade hops from start to finish. The citrus and grapefruit hop characteristics balanced with a clean malt body makes it difficult to have just one.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2013 Got this while making a couple of sampler six-packs at Drake Party Center in Kalamazoo after visiting Bells. Mine poured with a massive, highly carbonated head. Aroma was more like a Belgian ale, and it had a similar Belgian sourness to it (which I really donít enjoy). Very odd. There were hops, no question, but that "sourness" really turned me off. Would not try again, and now that Iím trying the second one I got - and THANKFULLY the last - all I can say is: who the heck makes a beer like this, tastes it and thinks itís good enough to put on the market???? Yuck.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 6/15/2013. Pours lightly hazy golden amber color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, orange zest, grapefruit, citrus rind, floral, grass, light pine, bread, light honey, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with some pretty dank feeling hop notes with a fair amount of malt balance; and decent strength. Taste of lemon zest, orange zest, grapefruit, orange rind, floral, grass, pine, bread, light honey, and floral earthiness. Good amount of earthy pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, floral, grass, pine, bread, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice flavor balance of dank citrus and floral/pine hop flavors; with a light amount of malt balance and some moderate astringent bitterness after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very crisp and sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming after the finish. Overall this was a good session pale ale. Good balance of hop flavors, and very smooth to drink. The astringent bitterness knocked this down a bit, but otherwise it was an enjoyable pale ale.

Going into this with high expectations, it cost 2.49. Only really good beers are 2.49 right? Here goes....from the open it already smells skunky. After the pour and closer to the glass, yep that is skunk. Strike one. It pours a clear, straw yellow with a great pillowy head. Ball one. Taste is bitter but not overly bitter, a hint of skunk is there. Foul ball but counts as strike two. Palate is quite long and bitter. Ball two. Overall this is not a great beer but it is not terrible. Probably will not seek again. A little dribbler to the second baseman, thrown out at first.

Bottle. Pours golden brown with medium head and lacing. Aroma of citrus hops. Average APA that finishes with a little too much malt for my liking, especially for an APA ----Hophaze out

Golden beer out of the bottle with a small white head. Light malty nose with some hop resin notes. Well balanced pale ale with some biscuit and cracker flavors and a tastey citrus hop bitterness. Easy drinking sessionable pale ale.

Was the "Mystery Beer" at Green Dot Stables in Detroit, Michigan for the week of February 3rd at a price of $3 a bottle. Since I had it straight from the bottle, I canít speak for the appearance of this one... Smell: From the get-go I can tell you that in the smell and taste this beer just had that "wet trunk" vibe, which Iíve had in a few beers. Itís a really musky, dank aroma, and itís hard to really explain what else it smells like. Taste: Much like the smell... almost exactly. The finish has is pleasant and not very bitter with a nice flavor of malts left on the tongue. Pretty much beginning to end though, Pathfinder has that trunk-like flavor. The feel is nice -- nicely carbonated. If this beer wasnít as carbonated as it is, I think it would get a much lower rating from me, as I think it would then just taste like trunk mildew... An average APA. Iím absolutely glad that I tried it, but itís just a fairly weak beer. Pretty forgettable. On the other side of things, I look at it like... itís a much better APA than the crappy ones Iíve given low ratings to. Thatís why it gets the rating it gets.
