1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2015 At the Lucky Stone Pub, the breweryís tap house. Oh dear. Iím only putting tripel as the style when adding this beer because that is what the menu stated. The missus took one sip and said, "That is not a tripel". Dull and lifeless and a bit soapy. No fine bubbles to the carbonation no tartness. Maybe SBC just has a quality control issue with some batches. Some of their beers are decent some has very strange flavors. I do want to like them so.Serving: Tap

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a golden amber with nice off-white head that lasts and leaves good lacing. Aroma is bananas, pears, apples, cloves, pepper, herbal, earthy yeast. Taste is shortly sweet at first, but then into a dirty spicy sourness that dries the middle and is a little off-putting. Palate is a bit too carbonated. Thereís not a lot of evidence of alcohol, but overall this one just isnít doing it for me. Aroma is nice, but the taste falls flat.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle into chalice, bottled on 11/17/2014. Pours slightly hazy bright orange color with a 1 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big apricot, pear, apple, banana, clove, pepper, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big apricot, pear, apple, banana, clove, pepper, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of apricot, pear, apple, banana, clove, pepper, candi sugar, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice tripel style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from the 4-pack, nice darker look, fizzy, not much head. Taste is very sweet, needs something to off set that (I used a bag of chips) but maybe a hop or two would be in order. Goes down fairly fast especially since itís 10%. Get the first one down and the rest is cake, and cake is good.

Very intense sweet banana and bubblegum. Itís a little much but still is enjoyable in small quantities. My wife loves it.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter.
The Reverent Monk pours a clear copper with a thick bubbly beige head that lasts about 30 seconds. The aroma is banana bread, caramel, floral and a hint of spice. The flavor is banana bread, caramel, floral, spice and a touch of vanilla. Overall this is decent.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
tap at brewery. Golden with small head. Pretty sweet and boozy. Not a lot in the way of spice, but decent flavors. Might dial back the sweetness a bit.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(bottle) Never heard of this brewery and was feeling like drinking a stronger Belgian style beer, so the price, novelty, and craving were the determining factors for the purchase. Pours a clear copper color with a white head that settles quickly to a mottled thin cap. Kind of a unique color for a tripel, normally they are paler. The aroma starts out with a lot of banana (more specifically, banana bread), a smidgeon of apple or pear (maybe both), a substantial amount of booze heat, something candy-like, and a bit of perfume. The flavor is very sweet and crosses the cloy line a little too far. Some spice and peppery booze on the finish tries to reign the sweetness in a bit, but itís too little, too late. Flavor of musty apples, perhaps butterscotch, pale malts, and some warming spice near the finish (case could be made for clove). Booze heat carries in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium and carb is appropriate. Overall this did sate my craving for a strong Belgian style beer, and the price was reasonable, but I canít make the case that it was particularly well crafted.
