2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pale Medium gold with a frothy lasting white head. Smells of malt, grain and a rotten vegetable element. Thin watery body with soft carbonation. Sort of like a champaign. Tastes of malt, corn and a bit of citrus. It is drinkable and inoffensive but didn’t get much of a reaction our of me.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle in Dublin. funny beer served in a glass of champagne and taste a little like sparkling wine. But not for me. I will probably never try it again.

1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Green 330ml bottle with a best before date of 30 June 09, drank April 09. Poured into a stemmed ’Hoegaarden Grand Cru’ glass.
Very pale golden yellow with next too no head even though I poured it vigorously. What bit of foam did arrive didn’t stay one iota of a second.
A freshly opened tin of Cornbeef was the smell I got, then a weak yeast aroma, strange combination I thought?
Almost tasteless, a really thin yeasty flavour hides behind a dry cardboard nasty tinny hint.
I had to open some cheese to help me finish the beer, a lesser man would have thrown it away, but I’m made of stronger stuff and refuse to waste beer, no matter how poor it is.
When you look at the ABV of other beers within this style you can see this is a rip-off watered down version playing on the name.
I have found some really good French beers over the years, this however isn’t one of them. I should have known when I saw who imported it.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A pale blonde golden lager with a thin white head. In aroma, a nice champagne like attack, very fruity, white wine notes, light acidity, very nice. In mouth, a nice crisp malt with light fruity esters, mineral notes, surprising. Tasted Dec. 25 2011. Bottle from Steve Gamble, 2 years old...maybe the champagne yeasts continued chomping on....

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
[330ml bottle, Peckham’s Stockbridge, Edinburgh] On the pour, reminiscent of a rather odd-coloured glass of sparkling wine - rising streams of carbonation, faint yellowish tinge to remind you it’s grain-based, not grape. Strong, gassy nose and a really sharp, bitter taste. The Hallertau give it that bitterness, and combine with the champagne yeast to unsurprisingly give an almost wine-like taste. Certainly refreshing, because of all the sharpness going on as a result of the ingredients. But is it that nice? I’d have to say no, it isn’t - no question bitter zingy lagers are eminently preferable to sweet malty ones, but Kasteel Cru maybe pushes things a bit too far. The smell verges on the vinegary, and the delicate champagne taste gives way far too quickly to an aftertaste that borders on the unpleasant

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(bottled). After a humid long run i swilled this fast , but its got some lemon and green apple acidity that stops you from just downing it without blinking ..like resembling the most subtle of geuze like qualities ...

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Premium lager type smell to it that contains a lot of grassy hops and it is quite sweet. In addition to this there is some mild skunk & biscuit like aromas but overall it is a pleasant smelling lager.
Clear straw yellow colour & forms the smallest of bubbly, white heads that fades almost instantly.
Sweet & sugar taste upfront that has a lot of hop character and hints of apple that make it seem like a cider at times. This is followed up with a disappointingly skunky after taste that is a little dry.
Light bodied beer that has plenty of carbonation and is generally quite smooth & crisp. It’s dry & not too refreshing though.
Not the best tasting & I get a feeling that the fancy presentation of the bottle is an attempt to mask the lacks of flavour & quality in the beer.
