COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Well, first I have to admit that this rating is not really reflecting the Licorne Black which to me is a far too sweet malt drink... The one I describe and rate here is a Licorne Black that remained in my cellar for over 2 years and is now 2 years over date... So let’s have a look if it get this stuff any better (or not)... The nose is much less sweet, offers nice hints of dried fruit (mainly figues) and some unpleasent fruity esthers. Marzipan rounds it up. My hope that the massive sugar bomb would have been reduced comes true, but still this beer stays so sweet, unbelievable. The malty notes come out better, a slight port idea shines through and the marzipan flavor reigns the finish. The beer is nearly flat now and the body is heavier. Still it’s not the best beer, but better than it was... Still can’t stand the amount of sweetness...

Mom brought this one back from a trip to France. +++ Sampled from a 500 ml can this beer poured a very dark brown color - almost black - with orange highlights and a large creamy-soapy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweetish, malty and toasty with anise, dark fruit, malted milk and cream. Medium length finish. Medium body and smooth. Meh.
