Do you always dive right into the deep end or do you wade in slowly? Do you rush in or do you stop to think about it before you decide? Well sometimes it’s nice to take your time. There’s no need to rush, take it slow, ease in and get it right. And that’s exactly what we did with our Gateway Kolsch; we took the time to get it right. Paying homage to the lagered ales of Koln Germany, this Kolsch style ale is aged a little longer, letting all the flavours mellow, making it one easy beer to drink. Brilliant yellow and clear as a summer’s day, this golden ale is for all of you out there who like to sit back relax and take the time to get it right.

Can from brewery. Clear golden yellow with thin white head. Not much of an aroma, faint lemon and straw. Very mellow flavour, makes it very quaffable. Thin, flavours of straw and lemon, lingering citrus flavour. Not bad, but not very memorable.

2015/09/02 - Pours a clear gold colour with a thin white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is sweet corn, hay, cereal, mild floral hops and a hint of apple. Taste is mildly sweet and slightly bitter with flavours of corn, cereal, cracker and mild floral tones. Mouthfeel is light to medium and slick with medium, slightly biting carbonation and a mildly sweet, dry finish. It's drinkable, but nothing spectacular. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at brewery. Hay and base malt aroma with faint green apple. Clear straw under lacy white. Crisp pilsner malt flavour that has some sweetness and very low noble hops. Very low bitterness. Medium high carbonation, light body.

Can - 473ml. Blond body with a thin white foamy head. Decent malty/hoppy aroma with grassy hints. Its boring malty taste carries herbal notes. Ends with a short bittersweet finish. Disappointing.

473ml bottle at Brothers Beer Bistro. Clear pale blonde with a foamy white head. Flavors are cereals, clean yeast and light citrus with fruity notes. Light body, good carbonation, slick texture.

Can from the brewery. Hazy gold with a small white head that leaves some patchy lace. Nose is light bread and honey and some light grass. Light sweet honey with some light fruit and a bit of spice. Medium light thin mouth with average carbonation and a crisp finish. Nice enough Kolsch.

Can from the brewery. Clear and bright straw-gold body with a healthy white head. Mellow aroma of lightly toasted grain, slight honey-on-toast sweetness, and a subtle herbal hint. Flavour is equally subtle and balanced - light bready malt, nice noble hop character with a brief hint of green peppercorn, clean and quick finish. Simple, but elegant, and a good take on the style.

can from The Beer Store, I am going to have to learn as much as I love to support the local beer scene. Kolsch just does not cut it for me. It is still good and well made , just not my ’Cuppa". If you are looking for a decent local lager this is worth a try.
