You approach the solitary windswept pine as it sits stoically upon its tiny perch of Canadian Shield and you wonder to yourself, “Why does this beautiful tree stand alone?” Then as you step closer, in awe of its majestic splendour, a branch blows down and slaps you right across your face. Sawdust City’s Lone Pine IPA is aggressively hopped and bursting with flavours of pine and citrus, loaded with mounds of hops and balanced with a blend of 4 different malts. Like that truculent tree, each glass is like a pine bow across your face.

Big bursts of grapefruit, along with flowery aromas on the nose. Tastes delicious, with pine, orange and grapefruit. A classic IPA.

Canned. The body is hazy, with a small white head. The aroma is flowery, with a wonderful hop bouquet. The taste is really strong with hops, almost overwhelming. It’s really balanced throughout.

0.473 can. Clear, gold color and a medium, thin, white head leaving an average lacing. Strong aroma of pines, resin, hops, grapefruit, and a floral touch. Taste is pretty bitter, not as hoppy as expected though due to the malts which offset that character and together create a pleasant blend. Medium body, slick texture, and below average carbonation. Finish is long and balanced to an even higher degree, not a tart brew. Overall the beer is very good, one of those pleasant finds one encounters from time to time.

Can from LCBO. Opaque orange with a big creamy white head. Veeery nice and resiny on the nose, sweet citrus fruits and musky notes. Tastes malty and citric sweet, resiny and fruity. Enjoyable lingering bitter finish, very full in the mouth with medium carbonation. Succulent. Nicely balanced and easy to drink. This is excellent, well done.

473ml can pours a hazy golden orange color with a finger and a half of white head that retains well and leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is pine and grapefruit with some grains. Taste is a bold grapefruit and pine hop bitterness with a malty sweetness. Grainy mouth feel. Light to medium bodied with generous carbonation that tickles the tongue. Overall, this is a hoppy beast that is sure to satisfy most hop lovers out there.
