You approach the solitary windswept pine as it sits stoically upon its tiny perch of Canadian Shield and you wonder to yourself, “Why does this beautiful tree stand alone?” Then as you step closer, in awe of its majestic splendour, a branch blows down and slaps you right across your face. Sawdust City’s Lone Pine IPA is aggressively hopped and bursting with flavours of pine and citrus, loaded with mounds of hops and balanced with a blend of 4 different malts. Like that truculent tree, each glass is like a pine bow across your face.

On tap, Imbibe, Kitchener. Yellow, medium creamy white head. Strong pine aroma - huge actually, appreciated! Taste is very dry and very bitter - as advertised! medium body holds it together well but this one is all dry piney hops - huge from start to very long bitter finish. Maybe a bit one dimensional, but it is a dimension I like! Well done folks, and thanks to Imbibe for having this on tap in KW.

Hazy yellow with an abundant clean white head. Resin, spice pungent nose and penetrating with s glow. Good piney bitterness which develops over the long haul and is complex with some sap, some citrus sweetness and herbal pepperiness. Intense but not extreme, strong but by no means brutish. Very good.

473 ml can @ Timo A. Canned on 11.08.2016.
Pours clear pale golden color with a small head. Nice tropical fruity aroma, pine, resinous hops, citrus, passion fruit, some grapefruits and caramel. Flavor is resinous hoppy, pineapple sweetness, piney, grapefruits, some orange and some gooseberries. Fresh and refreshing, very nice.

473 ml can. Canned Aug/30/2016. (LCBO) Thunder Bay, ON.
Clear golden color with a mid-size foamy white head. Piney and citrusy hops, mild bitterness, dryness and dry malt in a clean aroma. The flavor is resiny, piney and citrusy hops, moderate bitterness, dryness and dry grainy maltiness. Dry and hoppy. Nice.

Draught at The Craft Beer Market, Ottawa. Pours a clear dark gold, with a moderate off-white head, which lasts very well and leaves good lacing. Plenty of pine and mango hops mix with a little caramel malt in the aroma. Strong pine, mango and pineapple hops up front give way to a good caramel malt backbone. Bracing pine hops finish it off. This is a very good IPA, with plenty of hops flavour.

Pine, orange, mango, peach on the nose - high quality. Pours a cloudy maple-orange with large, pillowy and clingy head. Taste is fruity hops, dry citrus, pine, with grainy malt. Finish is long and pleasantly bitter with grapefruit peel. Well balanced, but a bit too heavy for sessioning. Great beer all-around.

Tall boy can. Murky deep yellow body and for mine, lots of sediment. Aroma to die for. Turned away for a second after pouring it, and the citrus and pine-y hops caught my nose when coming back. Mouth is weaker than aroma, still sweet malts with hoppy after bite but mild. Some wildness infused in the fruitiness. But very drinkable. Don’t think could do more than 2 in a sitting.

Can from Tanakaya. Nice pine aroma, quite full on. Taste is less so. Decent pine bitterness, bit of citrus and light tropical fruit, but the body is a bit lifeless. Maybe this hasn’t made it to Japan in the best condition. Nice still though.

Can. Cloudy orange-yellow pour with a white head. Aroma is bright citrus zest with hints of tropical fruit. Taste is fairly bitter up front with plenty of citrus, some sweet fruit notes and a dry finish.
