On tap at Bar Hop. Black with a creamy dark mocha head. Whiskey is quite fresh on this one and reminds me, in a good way, of screetch! As it warms up the alcohol dies down slightly (only a little bit mind you) and you get some oak, sweet malts, chocolate, bit of roasted coffee. Moderate+ body, mild carbonation, boozy, bitter, fresh whisky finish. Torn on this one as I do like the whiskey characteristics but its so far on that side that its difficult to appreciate the rest of the beer. In the end though its a tasty beer and worth trying out.

Draught at Bar Hop for ’Dark Water Series 2013’. Pours black with a small long-lasting creamy light-brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate along with some coffee and of course, whiskey. The flavour’s a bit of a mess, it’s overly woody, salty and peaty. Medium bodied. An interesting attempt but ultimately, for me, it didn’t work.

Big cask taste here. Lots of whiskey barrel. Pours black with great head and carpet lacing. Aroma of whiskey, lots of booze, dark chocolate and coffee. Consistency a slightly with some cream. Finishes bitter.

2013-03-10. Black body with a small tan head. 3+ Whiskey lots of whiskey in the flavour, muted dark malt. Pretty rough at first, it gains more of the base beer character as it warms up. Similar aroma with very prominent whiskey at the start, sweeter dark malt grows as it warms. Average bodied palate is light for the gravitas of the beer. A decent beer, which Improves greatly in the second half of the glass but still very much not to my own tastes. Bar Hop Black Water Event

On tap at Bar Hop. Black bodied, with some lace. Roasted coffee. A good job, good drinkability though unexceptional compared to the IS out there. Like coffee added, only a bit of whiskey.

Beautiful pInt - pitch black with a dark brown head. The nose is interesting. A sharp peppery sort of whiskey character - more like Canadian eye than like bourbon or scotch. Lots of earthy/peppery hoppiness that add a resiny/herbaceous note. Loads of hops in here - more than I recall actually. As it warms you get more of the barrel character but it kind of clashes with the hops a bit. Peppery with a lot of roasted character. Fairly assertive booziness with a sticky resinous mouthfeel. I want to like it - but ai definitely prefer the original. E
