COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mahogany perfection glistening off the lake, it’s pristine finish shimmers as it glides effortlessly across the water. The gentleman driver leans back and relaxes, letting the fresh lake air blow through his hair. Images of those classic wood powerboats populate the memories of Muskoka and lakes across North America. And to commemorate this bygone era, Sawdust City has brewed a beer as classic and pristine as the waterfront that once ruled our lakes. Ol’ Woody Alt is a lagered ale, fashioned after the beers from the Dusseldorf region of Germany. Filtered to a gleaming mahogany this ale drinks as smooth as the finish on those iconic wood boats of yesteryear. So come on down to Sawdust City and savour a taste of the past.

Can. Light brown in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of cola spices, caramel, and whole wheat bread. Flavors are of sweet bready malts, very husky grains, and chalk. Light bodied with an astringent bitterness. Unbalanced due to the astringency.

Clear amber brown with minimal head, smells sweetish, flavour is malty caramely with a bit of wood, not bad.

I think if they’re going to call a beer ol’ woody it should be barrel aged. Tease. Anyway.. Pours s nice amber with spotty lacing. Aromas are sweet malts and dough. A bit if dried fruit with a tangy finish that I often associate with lesser beer.

Can. Mostly clear, amber-brown pour with a small head. Aroma is malty, sweet with a touch of metallic and grassy bitterness. Taste is a little bitter, roasty and metallic, a little nutty. Decently balanced but some odd flavours... Some good elements, but a bit odd.

Dark semi-transparent, reddish brown body, with off-white head and some lacing. sweet malty grainy aroma, a little dry. Taste is balanced between sweet fruity and nutty malts and dry hoppy bitter element. Not bad.

Can. Pours a deep copper, massive off white fluffy head, leaving tons of bubbly lace. Nose is crisp, malty, a touch burnt. Tastes a little clearly like. Nothing to get excited about.

Can LCBO: red beer with tiny beige head. Sweet, hoppy nose. Taste is of caramel, malt, and earth. Sticky mouthfeel with a decent bitter finish. A little thin. Just okay.

Canned. Dark red, large white head. The aroma is sweet, nutty and with caramel. The taste is good, like an alt should be.

473 ml can from the brewery via Steve (thanks!), served quite cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear deep copper with a orange-tan head. Aroma: Rich sweet bready malt, bread crust, melanoidin, clean. Palate: Medium body with moderate+ carbonation. Flav.: Much like the nose with nice bready maltiness, a touch of woodsy hops, clean; dry with gentle bitterness and a pleasant, if somewhat light finish.

Not bad at all.
