3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012-04-19. Murky orange juice like body, small frothy white head. 3+ Modest alcohol in aroma, dry, grassy sort of character to the hops. 6+ Flavour is similar, sweetish fruity character up front, gets a drier more bitter character towards the finish. Average plus bodied palate, very light carbonation. Okay, it grows on me as it goes. Quaffable, alcohol is dangerously well hidden if it is 8.5% as listed!. Cask at Volo, Pre-IPA Challenge, Toronto

Taste is a bit sweet with a hint of spice.Medium body and carbonation. A slightly sweet/bitter after taste. Very unique beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto ON, June 24th 2013) Pours a clear gold with a thin head of white froth, some lace. Aroma has caramel/toffee malt, floral hops with some faint tropical fruit and herbs, light yeast. On the palate, sweet caramel malt, light Belgian bready/fruity yeast character, some NZ-type grassy/fruity hop character to start. Yeast builds through the palate but hops are fairly restrained, and while it dries somewhat at the finish that is mostly from alcohol. Body is medium-full and oily, carbonation fairly soft and smooth, alcohol pronounced. This came in a full-size glass and for once I’d rather wished it was smaller, boozy... An interesting beer, not really a traditional DIPA, kind of stranded between styles. Thought a bit more aggressive hopping was needed.

Pour at victory cafe comes in 1/2 pint glass (told ’em i was a professional but they wouldn’t pour a full glass due to 8.5 % alcohol which is odd & oh so Canadian of them) & offers a nice finger cap that bubbles like boiled milk. This one kinda confused me. Gina said it smells like a summer day in Belgium (which makes very little sense) & the bartender said it was the beer equivalent of Mac & Cheese (which makes even less sense & makes me think perhaps the 1/2 pint is too much). I say it’s both strong & smooth. Great taste that isn’t afraid to reveal the alcohol that makes it. Mac & cheese? Really?

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
April 20, 2012 - on cask at Volo. Murky bright yellow /orange with a smallish but very solid frothy/creamy white head, nice lace - I like it! Fruity / grassy aroma - simple, not 8.5% alcohol, quite sweet and yeasty. Taste - ripe treefruit, a little lemon and a lot of lush yeast - sneaky bitter (flour gummy softness) and moderate alcohol (7+). Thick, lightly carbonated, really chewing and palate-filling - weirdly delicate for something that ... heavy.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at Volo. Golden-brown with a small head. Belgian yeast and some fruit in the nose - on the sweet side, but not unappealing. Nice balance of Belgian and citrus/floral hop flavours. Alcol is not apparent. Very drinkable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Volo. Citric white wine aromas. Light coloured yet thick body, with some retained head. Grows on me, decent drinkability. . Above average mouthfeel. different mostly owing to the Nelson Sauvin hops.
