But this beer is definitely not dominated by hops, I don't even smell hops in the aroma, so kudos to Stone for sticking to the Belgian style. A little more ABV and this would be a real winner. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 15, 2004 Color is a magnificent golden deep yellow, very little head, waffer thin and stark white, a mirco thin ring sticks along the edge and the lace is in fast drippy blots. Aroma is slightly spicy of clove and phenols, clean and soft, yet pleasing pleasant. A soild smelling triple with a good touch of citrus, warmth, and alcohol. Taste has a very clean character with a nice fullness of light dullish citrus, slight lemony notes and melons, refined yeastyness with a very delicate dash of clove. Well rounded and befittingly blends together well too. Feel is properly proportioned with a clean fullness that keeps a general smooth character throughout with just a bit of zip in the carbonation to keep it interesting and is never to over the top, lending a gratifying drinkability.
I won't retrospect to much on the aspect of this beers' namesake, I'll just close by saying that my heartfelt best wishes go out to all those at Stone and all whose lives were touched by young Saywer. raindog (558), Evansville, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 13, 2004 Clear, golden. Streaming carbonation, with a small fizzy head. Aroma is very yeasty, quite malty, and subtle spices and hops. Not your average yeasty/malty aroma though, quite nice. Fizzy, quite thick mouth feel. Medium body. Tangy and malty at the front. Followed with chewy yeast flavors, and bready/toasty malts. Finish is yeasty, some spice...curaco,and malt. Some hops in the finish, but just add dryness, not over the top. Very drinkable, and non-offensive. I found this very enjoyable, especially as it lost carbonation. Thanks, once again,to Hopsrus for the rare beer, you da man! drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2004 A spicy triple that doesn't really drift too far from the norm. The beer is just loaded down with Belgian yeast, which definitely dominates the flavor, but there are little whisps of coriander or curacao or something of the sort. Slightly musty, but totally yeastified. Nuffield (2721), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 29, 2003 Golden color, virtually no head on my pour and little carbonation in the glass--just slow trickles. Thick body but each sip produced a rush of life on the tongue. Tons of spice in the aroma and flavor--raisin, pepper, bubblegum. Thanks to Adwoan for the trade. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 28, 2003 Light bright lemony golden color. Maltesers chocolate nose, alcoholic and fruity. Big alcohol kick at the front, quite sweet, hints of banana. Nice aroma, but overall too sweet and somewhat boring for a triple. jazz88 (2236), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 28, 2003 Bottle. Rich golden color with minimal head. Strong spicey clove flavor. Medium to full body. The aroma is quite enjoyable with sugar, corriander, orange, and clove. Thanks to Nuffield for sharing this with me. Radek Kliber (3942), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 27, 2003 Bright gold brew with bright white head. Very soft presence of hops, Belgian yeast sweet malt adds to the picture. Complex brew that some might not notice such fact due to its softness.
