Commercial Description:
Sawyer’s Triple is based upon the traditional "Golden Triple" style of strong ale, hailing from Belgium, and weighs in at 7.6% alc/vol. The brew is deep golden in color with a distinctive spicy, sweet and hoppy nose. Effervescent carbonation leads to a modestly dry malt character with hoppy flavors and alcohol overtones. Sawyer’s Triple was formulated and brewed by Bill Sherwood.

22oz bomber poured into a pint glass: Appearance - Yellow with a moderate white head. Looks like a "fizzy" yellow beer, as per Stone. Nothing to write home about, and other Tripels have a better appearance. Good amount of lacing. Smell - Nose is slightly floral and fruity with the typical Belgium yeast undertones. Banana is the first distinctive flavor to hit me. The other flavors are mixed together, with a blend of spices (almost like Christmas spices, but not really) as the only other smell that stands out. Not much of a nose, especially when compared to other Tripels. Taste - Slightly sweet tones, Finishes with a significant banana aftertaste. The taste definitely has fruit undertones to match the taste. The spice flavor is most distinctive during the finish, with strong nutmeg flavors. The nutmeg flavor is quite good, but still pretty low-key. The flavors are straightforward and muted. Mouthfeel - The sugars come out in the mouth feel, sticking to your tongue. The lingering aftertaste definitely has a banana tone to it, and sticks to your mouth/tongue like a banana. Not bad, but not great. Significant amounts of carbonation, but not excessive. Drinkability - Very easy to drink. Decently high ABV, but noting special. Could be a sessions beer, but that would be somewhat pushing it. Overall -- A little overkill on the banana (which is not my favorite flavor), which is a shame, because some of the other flavors and tones would be much more interesting if they came out stronger. Would definitely prefer a Belgian Tripel over this. Compared to other Stone beers, I’d definitely recommend something else from their strong selection.

Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow color, lingering small foamy head. Flavor is pretty standard tripel, with mild notes of banana, yeast, raisins, ripe fruits, and yeasty esters. Middle is somewhat dry and fizzy. Finish is warm with notes of alcohol. Medium bodied, a bit syrupy. Not bad, pretty standard tripel here.

Bottle. Pours a hazy brownish-amber with a bubbly off-white head. Spicy-sweet aroma, with malt, caramel, candied citrus. Taste starts sweet before picking up a lot of spice, with malt, citrus, dried fruit, and sugar. Lingering sweet spiciness. Tasty.

Interesting tripel. Definitely has a strong banana flavor that is slightly sweet but not overpowering. Slightly spicy too. Good stuff and a rare find too!

22 ounce bottle from JohnnyJ. Pours very hazy peach nectar orange with no head. The aroma is loaded with citrus type aromas with a bit of a sweet candy sugar note. The flavor is big with banana and a bit of herbal/spicy hoppy notes. Medium body with decent carbonation. Dry malty finish. Not bad at all.

22oz Bomber-Secret Santa-clear golden color w/a small, quickly diminishing head & good lacing. Light sweet aroma. Flavors of yeast, banana, candied sugar, spice, & a touch of floral hops. Maybe a little bit of citrus or orange peel. Solid brew, enjoyable, kind of a "standard" Belgian, maybe a little bit of a letdown as some of these Stone brews get such a buildup-particularly in this area where they can be hard to get-that, fair or not, you expect them all to be spectacular or overwhelming. I’d like to try this on tap or maybe w/a few years on it to compare the differences. Long, sweet, dry finish.

22 oz bottle. Clear pale orange with white frosting. Nose is banana, bubblegum, yeast and orange; very sweet. Tangy medium light, a little oily in the back. Taste is green banana, lemon pith, candi and lime peel. Bitter yeasty finish with black pepper.
