Dawghouse Brewers99 (91), Exeter, California, USA Jan 22, 2002 Deep amber in color. Malty aroma. Malty flavor backed with a hop bitterness and warming alchol. Very good example!
bobbrew (7), Yacolt, Washington, USA does not count Apr 13, 2008 OK, I haven’t had this beer for 2 or 3 years, but when I think about it almost every week I have to rate it. Saxer and Tony Gomes got me hooked on Dopplebock. I’ve tried all the benchmark beers and can’t understand why they are labeled benchmark when this beer is the one I dream of! Smooth sweet malt with no edges. High octane without recognizing it. Great all malt nose that leaves you yearning for that first sip. Overall, I can’t think of another beer I’d rather have on a deserted island than this one, or perhaps, Tony’s Pilsener. stoutlover72 (1335), NorCal, California, USA Dec 24, 2007 I was lucky enough to get a bottle of this with some signifigant age on it. It was at least 2 years old, possibly 3 or even 4. Which ever it was, it was a nice beer with some good malty sweetness to it. The nose is a bit of wet cardboard, some whiskey notes, brown sugar and prune juice. Appearance is a deep woody brown, barley any head at all. Mouthfeel is slightly thick. Flavor is alcohol, caramel malts, and a touch winey. A nice beer for a nice cold December night playing Rock Band. RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA Dec 31, 2005 This beer produces a hearty aroma of nuts and hops. It is copper in color with and an off-white head. It touches the tongue as a thin solution producing and sweet nutty taste on the palate that lingers well after swallowing. RAYBOY01 (1627), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 28, 2005 A bit of a one-trick pony...all sweet malt toffee and caramel...alcohol pretty well hidden...a bit thinner than I like in a doppel...but pretty drinkable. I’d revisit this one again. beervana (782), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Dec 20, 2005 Sampled at a 2005 Christmas and Winter beer tasting at Delilah’s, Chicago, IL. 2003 vintage. Clear dark brown dopple bock having a long-lasting off-white head. No discernable carbonation. Good sweet malt and caramel aroma. Full bodied beer that starts with a spicy, light toasty malt flavor, similar to chocolate-coated malt candy balls. Finishes with light sweet malt aftertaste. This is a good drinkable beer.
