I bought a 40 oz. bottle and a 30-can suitcase as part of my nostalgia beer tour. It’s an old New York brand, so I had to try it. The can and bottle are simple, clean designs that modern micro label designers could learn from. If only the product in the packaging was as good, there would be no problem. The beer has a moderate white head when poured, but this sinks quickly. No lacing. The aroma is sourish, though not as bad as some others. The color is a clear, attractive golden yellow with a few small bubbles. Thin on the palate, though not nearly as watery and urination-provoking as Bud or PBR. Carbonation OK, no Bud bloat. Taste is hard to describe, because it’s so featureless--slightly sweet, slightly sour, neutral and characterless overall. Relatively little alcoholic kick--you’d have to drink a vat of it to get really bombed. Don’t get a 40 oz. bottle unless you plan to drink it all in one guzzle, because what body and flavor the beer has disappears quickly no matter how tightly you reseal the bottle. You can’t find it in smaller stores around here and sixes aren’t available at all, but big bottles and cases are common in the big stores now. The 30 pack works out to 50 cents a beer--1970 prices. It has some advantages over PBR, Miller, and Bud, and I would get it as cheap brew before I got those. However, I prefer Ballantine over Schaefer and Schlitz among the nostalgia brews. Schaefer’s not a bad beer, really, just inoffensive and rather bland.

I actually liked this stuff for a coupla moths when I was a kid, but now this stuff tastes so green it pitiful... why does Miller make so many awful brews? Their Miller high-life is the best they make and that aint sayin much!

Schaefer is all you need on a summer afternoon when you’re grilling some burgers and dogs in the back yard. It’s nothing fancy. But as far as a regular cheap beer in a can goes, its better than Bud, Coors, and Miller. Here’s to the 12-pack attack.

This beer is a dime a dozen. If your an old timer who doesn’t want to try new beers, than this one is for you. My grandfather used to drink it, I however will not.

One single can cost me 55 cents. On a hot day, this is all you need. I’m not drinking no Oatmeal Stout. When you’re thirsty you just want to drink something down and relax -- this beer is perfect....

Bought this one as a joke. Friend of mine is always drinking PBR or PBR Light so I thoght I would purchase another inexpensive beer. It all started with "Jeff, wouldn’t you rather have a nice cold refreshing Schaefer Beer?" The joke was on me, I actually liked the Schaefer as a light refreshing beer, as did Jeff. I now drink it over my summer stead of Coors Light, and at 3/4 the price. Is it my favorite beer of all time? No, I am currently partial to Leinenkugel’s family of beers, but have also been exploring a lot of German beers thanks to a co-worker who emigrated from Germany not too long ago.

I hate to admit it but, I have had this several times when I was young and poor. Every bit as bad as you think it would be. Watery, nearly flavorless piss. Actually worse than the light if that is possible.
