My father drank this one. The first beer I ever tasted was a swig of Schaefer from my Dad’s glass when I was a youngster in the 1960’s. Of course it turned my stomach then but any beer would for someone who was six years old. But as I began sampling beers when I got to legal drinking age I tried this one a few times when I was low on dough. It’s just a basic American mass produced lager with a pungent aroma and a yellow pour with a lots of carbonation. Unlike other reviews I have read, the taste doesn’t turn me off completely but it doesn’t do much for me either. If I am going to buy cheap beer, I’ll buy a PBR.

When I bought this I went into it with low expectations. I was moderately suprised that it barely exceeded my expectations. It’s an alright beer, would I buy it again probably not, would I turn one down, probably not.

Rated 2/18/06: The can assured me I wasn’t drinking water. I wasn’t expecting anything great when I picked up a twelve pack, I knew it was swill but I needed something for when I was painting. Never poured it out of the can so I am assuming that it is very pale yellow in color with a slight head and good carbonation. The aroma was non-existent. Mouthfeel was very thin, I have never had a beer that was this thin. The flavor is very subtle which makes this an easy drinking beer. At first I thought it was really bad, but after a couple it started to grow on me. Overall a drinkable beer that lacks any distinguishing qualities, the odds of me buying this again are slim to none.

Pours like any other pale lager. Stronger, sweeter aroma than some others. Flavor is as expected. Not too bad for the style. I’d rather have a Pabst though.

Excellent beer. Taste like PBR would if it were "light". Soothes the mouth and mind with delicate hops flavor. A dash of malt compliments it nicely. Can be served warm or cold and still taste great. Excellent in "boilermakers". Proud to drink "America’s Oldest Lager Beer" - Still well made to suit even the pickiest beer drinker.

Clear, light golden with a medium-sized light-white head that quickly and unevenly dissipates down to a thin film. Sweet corn and light malt aroma is just a tad sour around the edges. Rather dry flavor, some rye and wheat, sour grains, copper, and glass. Very highly carbonated. Lacking in flavor and character all around.

I brought this to a party one night as a joke. There just happened to be a cute blonde from Indiana that liked Schaefer, eschewing the likes of MGD and Keystone Light. That was a really good night. Oh yeah, pours like clear piss, smells like piss, and tastes like ass. That about covers it.
