50cl bottle from Bier-deluxe. Bbe 07/15. Label says 7,4%. Murky brown, thick off white head. Boozy was my first reaction when dipping my nose into the glass. Red berries and ripe banana, not a very nice combination. Flavor is better with ripe banana, spices and wheat. Boozy though. Long sweet fruity finish. Tickly mouthfeel. the boozyness evens out later on. A disappointment.

Very smooth and floral beginning. Intense with lots of clove. The mainpart is yeasty-smooth, slightly alcoholic, intense with a nice sweetness, that is not too sticky. The aftertaste is full and round, smooth and yeasty, more clove than banana, fresh and thick in one. Voluminous.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color bock with a nice thick foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of huge banana bread ester with quite nice with some caramel malt and some residual sugars also noticeable. Taste is an easily quaffable mix of banana bread ester with quite a bit of residual sugars and some caramelized malt also noticeable. Body is about average for style with strong carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I’m probably not a 100% objective as I really enjoy weizenbock but I thought this was a great example.

My Bottom Line:
A rich nose of pears and clove-like phenolics join dates before plummeting into a slightly astringent, excessively raw, yeasty flavor profile.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam surfs the dark brown.
-Carbonation is ample, as is to be expected of the style.
-Too bad the flavor profile can’t follow up on the aroma...
-The finish is rather, but also dusty/yeasty.

Bottle.

Version à 7.5% (M.A. 13.06.14) (1138-050714)

Cloudy deep copper pour has plenty of apparent fizz, but just a ring of light brown foam. Heavily yeasty, but fairly atypical aroma, reminding of spiced bread, gently peppery, subtley clovey and a touch nutmeg-like too. Rather than having a banana ester blast, it feels more like a fruit puree or a marmalade spread above the chewy bread, not as intensely fruity as other examples, with soft banana peel notes and stronger pear and vanilla ones, almost apple-like with the tied low to medium perceivable tartness. Plenty of residual sugars in here, but the high carbonation, earthiness and higher bitterness than average clean this up well. Nevertheless, it does not make a hugely convincing impression. The finish feels very bitter and almost agressively yeasty rather than balanced, the sugariness is quickly tiring and the texture is rough-edged, the bubbles biting and feeling detached from the maltiness.

Bottle. Pours dark brown in color with a fluffy tan head. Ripe banana, fruits-in-a-box and vinous dark fruityness in aroma. Banana liqour and light peppery spicyness in taste. A bit on the sweeter side, but otherwise quite decent.
