Noord Holland Bierfest 2008. Poured black with a large tan head. Aroma of dark fruit and softly sweet malt. Medium to full body, flavour of dark fruit, mildly roasted chocolate malt and coffee hints. Dry, slightly bitter aftertaste.

Easy going but really great stout. Just wat a stout should be. Lots of chocolate, coffee, liquorice, resins. Roasty, malty, deep. I don’t know wether this is a good tribute to the original Van Vollenhoven Stout, but it certainly is a tribute to the style.

Pitch black body, tan head. Creamy aroma, butterscotch, macaroons, light coffee. Medium full body, pretty smooth and with a mild carbonation. Good, even fierce amount of hop bitterness over the inherit roasted malt aroma. Sticky ending. Classic feel to this beer. Good amount of flavour for the ABV. Really nice actually. (33cl bottle, cheap)

Bottle courtesy of Joes. Note: old bottle, best before 01-11-2008. Pitch black color, small brown head. Smell malts, a hint of coffee, a little musty and hay. Smells like cow-food. Taste malts, musty, hint of coffee. Clearly a bottle that’s been left in the cellar for too long. Low to medium carbo and body.

33 cl bottle from De Bierkoning. 2011 vintage (6.8%). Black color. Mocha colored head, some retention. Aroma’s: strong roasted malts, ground coffee. Flavor is roasted and medium bitter. Medium bodied. Finishes with lots of roast and bitter coffee. Could have used a little sweetness for balance.

Bottle traded by Borresteijn. Thanks my friend! It pours jet black with a big creamy tan head. The aroma is heavy roasted with notes of coffee and liquorice. The flavour is very roasted with lots of liquorice notes. Coffee and bitter chocolate as well. Very good! Long bitter malty finish.

A great stout with an astringent bitter after taste. A hint of licorice. Tried this beer with Erol and Anouk at the Pilsner Club near the Spui in Amsterdam.
