Bottle from De Bierkonning, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 01.10.11 consumed at home w/c 10.10.11 Pours black, this is soft in the mouth with a middling coffeeness going on. Nicely bitter and roasty in equal measures. Sorry for the poor rating as I was cooking at the time and trying to do to many things at once, including drink and rate my beer. A6 A5 T7 P4 Ov13 3.5

Pitch black with light brown head as stouts usual come. Smells very malty. Taste is soft and not too alcoholic. There’s sweet malts. Aroma is perhaps bread/roast with a bit of dough. Palate is quite nice, not too flat but not fizzy drink either. Body is pretty thick. I only wish this would have more complex aroma.

Countbeer (4320) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - MAY 21, 2011
Bottle: Vast creamy tan head on top of a black beer. Smell coffe, roasted malts and chocolate. Taste coffee, liquorice, chocolate, roasted/light burned malts and barleys, spices and hint of (dried) dark fruits. Aftertaste of coffee, bitter and grass. low carbo, tingly mouthfeel, medium to fuller body and a light creamy texture.

From bottle at De Pilsener Club, Amsterdam on 9 April 2011. Very dark brown colour with a generous tan head.. Not quite opaque. Dry with plenty of powdery chocolate and some burnt malt notes. Firm mouthfeel with a slightly prickly carbonation. Straightforward but satisfying. Very enjoyable and extremely drinkable. And I can’t really think of a better place to drink a recreation of a very old beer.

Light and frothy, more like a porter. Smooth malt, mild roastiness. Faint trace of something herbal. Dry malty finish. Goes down easy enough but it’s such a simple beer it defies easy description!
