3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dogbrick (6065) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - NOV 30, 2011
On draught at the brewpub. The beer is a clear yellow-gold color with rising columns of bubbles and a medium thick and fluffy white head that burns away slowly. Sticky patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet malt and grassy hops. Light body with flavors of toasted malt, mild hops and a bit of fruit. The finish is grainy malt with a faint hops aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 10, 2011
My Bottom Line :
Bready yeast paints a rustic flavorscape for this unfiltered Helles, as herbal hops and soft, doughy cereals merge in a pillowy show of balance.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A tuft of foam tops the cloudy blond.
-Cereal flavors are pleasant. Could there be wheat in here too?
-The finish is a continuation of the flavor profile, with mild herbal hop bitterness and equally delicate cereal sugars.
-Oh, if all North American brewpubs had a house blond of this character instead of the often mailed-in colours they brew…
-This is not a top-tier Helles, but it serves its purpose very well and is as drinkable as it is flavorful.
On tap at the brewpub.
