0.33L bottle. Pours cloudy black with a frothy tan head. Aromas of bready malt, chocolate, and sugar. Medium sweet up front, with some vanilla and banana notes. Not much in middle other than sweetness, then to a mild roasted malt / coffee flavor at the end that doesn’t linger that long. Medium body with a creamy and chalky mouthfeel and active carbonation. Overall, on the sweeter side of stout. Pleasant enough, but not a huge amount of character though to make this one stand out.

Tasted end 2007 when this brewery was still in the Netherlands. The name refers to a well-known cannon displayed in the city of Ghent. Off-white, medium thick, creamy head, colour a dark burgundy brown, misty. Aroma of caramel, candied dates, port wine, gin, elderberries, brambleberries, coffee grounds, bitter chocolate; soft fruity taste with mellow dark maltiness and medium carbonation, caramelly and nutty, lightly spicy accents, finishing in a slight roasted bitterness with a coffee hint, like a Scotch, accompanied by mild herbal hoppiness.

Draft at Leids Bierfestival. Pours dark brown with a beige head and an aroma of overripe fruits, malt, toffee and yeast. The taste is medium sweet with a complex malty flavour and a nice bitter hoppy finish. Really nice!

Bottle from Sugaya. Large yeasty nose, some roast, ripe thick raisins, and light spice. Cloudy brown, thin dark tan head, and some floaties (sediment). Light, slightly sourish, dark fruity initial / cherries, ripe apples, plums / goes to full-on sweetness in mid palate and also displays some nutty element. Medium body. Interesting stuff. Full of gentle fruit flavors, not overdone in any way. Seems rather rustic and traditional.

Una dubble classica, semplice ed equilibrata. Domina un tono dolce-caramelloso, leggermente floreale. Discreta e piacevole!

Nice tasty Belgian style dubbel. Body of caramalt and with some dark fruit, has a salty touch.
