COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hop Ruiter (Hop Rider) has a full, almost rustic malt body, and pairs Belgian yeast-driven flavors with American assertive hoppiness. It is dry hopped, with two noble varieties which add complexity, delicacy and a bit of funk.

750 ml. Cloud golden body. Frothy white head, mostly lasting. Aroma of citrus, flowers, herbs. Hints of toasted grain, apple, pepper. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter and lightly acidic. Medium to full body, smooth texture and lively carbonation. Hop-forward beer. Tart citrus, floral notes. Sweet malt backbone along with some earthy and biscuit malt notes in the taste. Long, bitter finish with some lemon and floral notes. Enjoyable beer.

On keg at t’Waagstuk. Pours a cloudy blonde colour with a thick white head. Awesome hoppy aroma of pine, passion fruit and grapefruit with barley and caramel malt notes. Flavours of passion fruit upfront with some pineapple also. A little sweet but great balance between the hops and the candy sugar, barley and caramel tripel characteristics. Mild carbonation and CO2 prickle. Chewy mouth-feel with a long hoppy, caramel linger. Mild bitterness and a little dry to finish also. Very well done.

750ml bottle in a Trappist glass. Pours cloudy golden with a thick, lacy, white head. Aroma of spicy yeast, floral hops, and caramel and bread malts. The flavor is hoppier than most tripels, but not too hoppy. Average texture. A good tripel, but I still want more hops.

A hazed blonde ale with a thin white head. In aroma, a smooth herbal malt with light catty hops. In mouth, a sweet powdery and perfumey malt with light talcum notes, smooth and clean. On tap at Belgian Beer Fest, Sept. 10 2011.

750 ml bottle. Grassy hoppy nose with a sweet musty aroma. Pours yellow gold with a thin white head. Bitter grassy notes upfront with sweet sugary notes immediately following with a bitter citrus note following to a little funk in the finish, finishes a little herbal and minty. Pretty nice.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, milky-yellow body with a very tall, expansive, white head. Great-looking laceworks on the descent.

Smell: Pale malted barley layered in pepper, non-pepper spice, and lemon zest with a candyish but also floral edge to it and fruity hints of pears, peaches, and citrus.

Taste: Faintly grainy tastes of pils and rather pale malts given a drop or two of simple syrup, one drop of honey. Orchard fruit juice fruitiness, then, some phenolic anise-hinted spiciness along with a pinch of ground pepper. Leafy, spicy hops with ample bitterness. A bit of the spice and bitterness still hanging about for the drying, warming finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-high, engaging carbonation.

Overall: It’s nice enough, but not entirely without some coarseness to it.

draft@’Waagstuk: slightly cloudy, yellow/golden with a big, white fluffy head, smell is wonderful, sharp floral hops, somewhat fruity & some grassy hops, sharp & hoppy, taste is a bit less impressive than the smell but still pretty dam good, starts out with plenty of Belgian yeast then goes into the floral & slightly grassy hops, some fruity lemon, aftertaste is slight cooked vegetables, some spices as well, bitter, somewhat light body & lively carbonation, Belgian IPA would be a more fitting description, doesn’t have all that much in common with any tripel I have had so far, beginning to dig this brewery more & more

Draught at Moeder Lambic, Fontainas
Deep blond color, with creamy head. Sweet aroma of malt and grains. Good body strength, sweetish malt flavor, with mild presence of the Belgian yeast, correct bitterness, and a bit of warmth from the alcohol. Not impressive, but pleasant.
