Hop Ruiter (Hop Rider) has a full, almost rustic malt body, and pairs Belgian yeast-driven flavors with American assertive hoppiness. It is dry hopped, with two noble varieties which add complexity, delicacy and a bit of funk.

Bottle (330 ml). Extra from 77ships, thanks! Almost clear golden with a small off-white head and little lacing. Aroma of breadied malt, light citrus, some spiciness and perfume hops. Taste is slightly sweet with breadied malt, caramel, spiciness (more than in the aroma), floral presence and alcohol warming in the finish. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Decent Belgian Strong Ale. A tad "hot", but the hops help the drinkability. I don’t get the "bit of funk" from the description though.

Draft to taster at Ei8ht Ball. Looks good for the style; a transparent lighter gold with thin white head tht steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of a robust blend of yeast, spices, malt, and hops. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. A bit more syrupy than I prefer, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Draft in a taster at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a mostly clear gold with a small white head that settles quickly into a ring. Notes of bready and crackery malts, straw, cardboard, grass, and sugars. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a malty, dry mouthfeel. Seemed old, like a few years old. Not very hoppy. Not bad, but doesn’t live up to its reputation.

10oz on tap at Ei8ht Ball, during their import happy hour. Mostly clear golden orange color. Thin off-white head. Couple bits of lace. Fades to nothing. Get some old-hop aroma that I often get from belgian blonds on this one. Kind of musty, lightly spicy, hint of citrus, hint of belgian yeast, and that distinct old-hop flavor. For a blond ale, though, it does hide the 8.5% alcohol remarkably well. Don’t get as much sweet or sugariness than I’d expect for this ABV. Moderate sweet, light spiciness. Light bitter. Just a hint of lingering warmth in the late finish. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. OK belgian blond ale. The most impressive part of this is how well it hides the alcohol. Drinks like a 6.5% belgian blond ale. Don’t like the flavor and texture, though, can’t get past that distinct old hop aroma. Didn’t end up finishing my 10oz.. Tastes like a disctintly older keg... Not a fan of this.
