3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
My night-cap on 23rd Oct 2012 in the excellent Cafe De Grendelpoort in Valkenburg, Holland.
33cl bottle poured with its sediment into the correct brewery glass.
The beer poured almost black, very dark brown maybe (the pub is dark to start with): on top a thin tanned foam.
Mixed bag in the nose and tastes: malts first and foremost, mild liquorice front with sweeter molassses taking over, a mini hop, dry finish completes the flavours but there is a lot more going on inbetween. My bottle had a nice, but unexpected and unusual ísemi-sourí feel (for a Stout) to it throughout the tasting. I also thought the alcohol level isnít hidden to any great extent. Complexed and different with a variety of fruit notes and malty levels of roasted/toasted chocolate and coffee.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
I expected a little more. Itís quite bland and boring actually. Itís the usual stout flavor profile, but without the flavor. I know many better stouts. The only thing that makes this stand out a little is the typical Scheldebrouwerij salty (seawater) flavor added to it. Which works in some of their beers, but not in all of them.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at Monks. Opaque brown pour with a frothy tan head. Dark and sweet. Liquorice. Molasses. Can definitely taste the oysters. Feels like a variation of a Roquefort 10 (believe it or not). Warms up to a little dark red pit fruit. Slight peat. Leather. Medium body. Really good stuff.

Bottle 33cl, a dark beer with huge copper head. Nose is low on dark malt. Aroma is very roasted and coffee like with a vinous like note, dry, over riped grapes, licorice, slightly salted ? Interesting kind of stout.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
a good balance of roasted chocolate and coffee. solid but unexciting, and a little bit on the thin side too. just had after the massive green flash double stout had demolished my mouth though, so perhaps a bit of unfair comparison.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black body with no light going thorough. Tan fair brown head. Chocolaty on the nose, simple but very nice. Body is light, low carbonation. Taste is definitely chocolaty, some caramel, with plums and dried raisins in the background. Alcohol in after taste.
