Witheer of Middelburg is produced on the base of a special historic recipe, which includes wheat and oatmalt, apart from the traditional barleymalts. These grains make the beer both tender and lively and the aromatic Spalt hop gives the beer a lightly bitter accent.

Bottle @ De Tolly Joogipood. Pours hazy yellow with small fluffy white head. Aroma is malty, yeasty, wheat, light citrus. Taste is yeasty sour, paper, some spicyness. A bit watery and strange taste. Thin to medium body. Drinkable but rather bad than good.

Light amber, hazy with small white head. Specidic taste with some fruity notes and coriander, but almost no bitterness, mostly some kind of sweet, sour and watery.

Robe plus blonde que blanche, peu de mousse. Nez sur la levure, le citron, plus houblonnée. Bouche à l’attaque fraîche, belle amertume, fine bulle, finale raffraîchissante. Une belle blanche typée.

330mL bottle BB 06/2016 Pours a hazy pale blonde body, white foam flairs up by dissipates. Mild aroma; some spicy phenolic yeasty notes, dried orange peel, earthy spice & hay. Medium bodied, drying texture, prickly carbonation. Much the same on the body - nothing really stands out - faintly spicy, peppery, light fruitiness. Mild finish, lingering spice and breadiness. Run of the mill sort of Wit, not bad, but the flavours don’t really pop.

Deep golden colour with a smaller than expected head for the style. Strong coriander and clove aromas, along with the wheat and dank yeast. The taste is quite pleasant but a little sweeter than expected - wheat grains, lemon zest, coriander and lots of honey. Light in body and spicy on the tongue. Quite refreshing on a warm day and enjoyable. Not as clean and crisp as some others of the style though.

33cl bottle at home. Hazy golden with a medium white soapy head. Medium body with moderate to high carbonation. Nice sweetness with some sour and bitter tones. Wheat, citrus, yeast, some hops and herbs. A nice and refreshing witbier, which was not too synthetic as are the most mass produced Belgian whites.

Alengrin (2885) - BELGIUM - NOV 7, 2014
Scheldebrouwerij’s witbier, with off-white, creamy, not too stable head and golden blonde colour with a certain haze. Aroma of unripe peach, orange peel, cardboard, dry cider, coriander, wheat. Soft applish fruitiness in the mouth, honeyish barley and sourish wheat but in a mild and subtle way, touch of caramel, more tart and dry towards the finish with more hop bitterness than expected from the style. Has a certain amount of body you won’t find in the Hoegaarden clones, but still doesn’t add much to the style.
