This legendary beer style has a richness of history to match its rich flavor. The beer was named in Einbeck, Germany during a city celebration where the strong dark beer was being served. It seems that a bock (the German word for goat) entered the grounds unseen. Soon after, one of the villagers was knocked to the ground. The bock was standing nearby and to this day it is still unclear whether it was the beer, or the bock, which leveled the villager.
Ingredients: Pale, Caramel, Cara Pils and Black malts, imported Hallertau and domestic Cascade hops.
Available January through April.

Pours a reddish copper color with a good sized tan head, mostly dissipating. Nose is malt. Nice and creamy on the palate, this bock has a sweet flavor of caramel wrapped around the malt flavor. Tastes more like a dopplebock than a bock. Very good beer- pairs well with brats off the grill.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has lots of bread with some light caramel and a touch of sweet grains. Flavor has bread throughout with a decent amount of toffee, light caramel and a hint of sweet grains.

Dark caramel to umber color. Moderate sized, dense head of taupe bubbles. Sweeter aromas with caramel, brown sugar and just a hint of toasted malt. Interesting start, which seems rather dry, but suddenly is overtaken with sweetness of sorghum, caramel and malt. A sweet simple bock.

Bottle dated 050816 into a Pilsener glass. Golden dark amber, dark but clear, plenty of carbonation, a tall tan thick creamy head that recedes slowly. Thick, clingy, creamy lacing follows the beer down the glass. Sweet aroma, dark fruits, bread / grain, floral, perhaps a bit of caramel. Moderate to substantial feel with a good presence on the tongue. Complex flavors; dark fruit, sweet, nutty, bread, honey. Finish is slightly (just barely) bitter with a mild finish. Very, very good. This is a top notch beer, true to the style.

Medium Malt aroma and flavor with a medium low body. Little to no hop flavor with a low to medium low hop bitterness. Overall a well balanced bock that leans slightly towards the malt. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bad water equals bad beer. Contaminated. Groundwater in New Ulm, MN farm country is toxic due to livestock and pesticide run-off and saturation to the water table in porous soil that has been abused for centuries. Check the demographic data on cancer.

Pour on tap, dark red pour with white head, aroma brought notes of grain, bread, dough, sour fruit, spice, hints of slight yeast, some trash. Taste was a mix of grain, sour fruit, bread, toast, some yeasty notes into a bit of earth, finishing slightly sweet. Something not working together well for me, but decent overall.

Pours a clear red color with khaki head. Well balanced with caramel and malty flavors. A tad on the sweet side
