3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Loose bottle at HyVee. Interesting light brown color, kicks up a big foamy head, but maybe my glass had some dust in it. Smell is low on malts, with just a hint of spice, and the hops seem subdued so far. Tasting, though, really offers a hit on my tongue. First I think it’s from having a lot of rye, but it seems most of this is from the hop. Bitterness is more from pungency, or like holding a wet hop cone in one’s teeth. Acidic, and maybe not ideal for most beer drinkers. But for hop lovers who want to try a different hop, this is an eye-opener. Malt leaves a lot of stickiness on my lips. Hop at finish offers a sprig of mint.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle - Pours dark copper with a foamy off-white head. Nose is dry bready malt and spicy rye, spicy and piney hops, and a bit of sweetness. Taste is dry and spicy, with a bit of tropical fruitiness, a touch of pine, and a dry, grassy finish. Slick and medium-bodied, with lowish carbonation. Pretty smooth, and teetering the line between dry and sweet. Not too shabby.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Drank from a bottle camping in Minnesota. Nice flavor but expected a little more. Pretty decent, but prefer Schells other offerings much more.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a beautiful amber with a thick crown of tan foam. Nose is of malt. Nice and creamy on the palate, the taste is very well balanced between its malt backbone and its hop accents with very little bitterness. This flavorful beer is a good companion to a variety of soups and sandwiches.

12 oz bottle pours a clear dark orange color with off-white head and good lacing. Aroma has lots of caramel, some dark fruits, slight rye, and a bit of hops. Taste is on the sweet and fruity side with faint bitterness in the finish. Body is medium with average carbonation. Enjoyable and better than I expected.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a clear very deep amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of rye and sweet grains with a bit of light fruits. Flavor is very similar with rye and sweet grains throughout with just a hint of light fruits in the finish.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour is a fairly dark caramel, minimal off white head, sparse lacing. Aroma is caramel and bready malt, light pine and citrus hops. Biscuit malt. Taste is a fair bit of caramel and brown sugar malt, toast, pine hop finish. A bit of spice, perhaps from the rye, is present in the taste but absent in the aroma. Slightly sweeter than I would have preferred.
