A rich deep brown brew with some copper at the edges. The thin light khaki head tops the pretty brew. The nose has some rich notes of caramel and little bit of rye spice. There is also some hint of a spice like cinnamon. Toffee and black tea are the dominant flavors. Cinnamon and rye in the spicy finish. Bits of dry wood come through in the aftertaste. Some tobacco notes come through as it gets warmer. A nice spicy winter warmer.

Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours a clear very deep amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of rye and sweet grains with a bit of light fruits. Flavor is very similar with rye and sweet grains throughout with just a hint of light fruits in the finish.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 crossovert (4563) - Wisconsin, USA - OCT 18, 2012
Not often does somethign like this get my juices flowing. I love lagers but mid-sized american breweries usually fuck them up. This is something different. I was expecting crap. I was surprised. It isn’t a traditional lager though, more like an ipa-light. Very different than the standard shit coming out.

Pour out of bottle, clear red pour with white head, aroma brought biscuit, spicy rye and earthy tones, some grain, slight lemon, touch of toasted malt. Taste is a pretty nice mix of spicy rye, some slight caramel, toasted malts, hints of biscuit, some slight lemon and other citrus hops but restrained, finishing fairly spicy.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 JK (3966) - Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - SEP 8, 2012
Very much like Summit’s EPA in the flavor. Brown. Thin palate, and a considerable hop profile, much more than I expected. Just a little grain sweetness in the aftertaste, but this is a dry beer, and not one of Schell’s better products.
