4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Very tasty!!! This beer re-confirms why I love Viennas so darn much! The malt is deliciously assertive - with a honeyish sweetness that's to die for. In addition, the hops aren't forgotten, but they're in the background. Just enough to properly augment things, but they disappear quickly and don't linger. My lone complaint is the inability to get a head out of it! Otherwise, bravo.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 5, 2005 Decent clean aroma not found in other Schell products. Beautiful copper-red color. Small head with fine bubbles and clingy lacing. Sweet malt flavor, lively carbonation, light mouthfeel, light tasty hop finish. Slightly dry, acidic finish. Extremely drinkable and good with food. Thanks to Schell for making this a year-round offering.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The pour is a translucent copper color with a minimal head that is semi-creamy in texture and a light tan color as it evaporates, the lace forms a fine sheet upon the glass. Nose is crisp and clean and malt sweet as is the start with the top light to moderate in feel. Finish is austere in its acidity; the hops are pleasant in their spicy presence, desert dry aftertaste and a nice drinking beer that would hit the spot on a hot Arizona afternoon.

Malty, but mild. A little spicy hop character. Very drinkable, a session option for those who like the style.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2004 I really liked this beer. It was deliciously malty, with just a hint of hops in the aroma and flavor. The red amber color is beautiful. Another typically wonderful Schell product. This is definitely a keeper.

Bottle. Not bad. Not quite as strong a malt presence as a dopplebock, but heading down that line.

1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
A small lager with just enough hop to smooth the malt sweetness, and a flavoring hop with the essence of licking an aged hearth.

Firebrick pours out a clear coppery reddish color with a one finger high head of yellowy puffy loose foam that sits for a good time eventually diminishing to a solid skim on top always present and leaves tons of spotty clear lace and small sheets.
Smell is faint but present of sweetish malts, fresh and crisp, a touch of musty grain and a nice yeasty sweet bread dough quality.
Taste is more of the same with favorable but short sweetness of malts, toasty and breadish, some grainy unevenness when cold but goes away as it warms. It finishes soft and lightly drying with a bit of a yeasty bitter sweet grab that lingers nicely.
Easy and simple with close to medium body in feel with a quick creamy start and gaining some bolder qualities as it reaches the midway point and through to the clean crispy lightly dry finish. Quite a nice little brew, the finish is my favorite, and once it warms a bit is very nice and very drinkable. One of the better Schell's brews IMO.

Amber in color with a small quickly diminishing head. Moderately malt nose with hints of toffee. Flavor is lightly sweet with strong malt notes, touch of bitter.
