3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured into Sam Adams Sensory Glass.
Color is a golden bronze. The beer looks dark, but you can see right through it. Pours a light tan head that leaves great lacing.
Smell is very malty. Roasted malts with hints of carmel. Taste is of roasted nuts and the same hint of carmel. The taste is mainly malty, but there are some slight earthy hops present.
Mouthfeel is very rich and creamy. The beer goes down with a slight bitter aftertaste.
Overall this beer is easy to drink and could be a wonderful session beer. It is a great beer, however the taste becomes more and more of a typical lager after a while, and I am more of a fan of ales.

Sampled at Northgate Andover beer tasting. This was the style that first turned me on to craft beer in general, so that might be part of it. Fresh and crisp with a bready middle and mild hop finish.

Pours a light red/copper with a pillowy tan head. Moderate chunky lacing. Nose is toast, biscuit, corn, honey, butterscotch. Light to medium mouthfeel. Kinda sweet, caramelly malt,’whole grain bread, molasses, faint noble/ citrus hop in the finish. Not awful.

Nice Vienna larger with balanced Munich malt character. Mild hop flavor. Nice change from IPA’s but nothing spectacular.

Bottle thanks to Ben! Pours a clear light amber with a grayish tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of bread and biscuit with a bit of sweetness. Flavor is also bread and biscuit forward with some earthy grain underlying.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2015 I’m a sucker for Vienna Lagers and session beers in general. Immensely drinkable I could drink these all night long. Nice lighter toasted malt, caramel, nice dryness on the back makes you want to drink more. This beer would go great with spicy food. I can see why this beer has won awards for the style.
Edit: bumping the rating up. Perfect beer to have while grilling Brats, burgers and eating various potato salads.

Slightly above average beer with a light clean taste. Goes down smooth. My favorite Schell’s beer.

Tap at Minnesota State Fair, Land of 10,000 Beer section. Some caramel in nose. Light copper/brown color. Light caramel, root beer, grain, some gentle fruit tang, a little hoppiness in final. Thin-medium body. Okay.
