Pours a clear rich gold color with a decent large bead white head. Aroma is sweet malt and hop spiciness. Taste is a vibrant chewy sweet malt along with almonds, vanilla, and cider. A little of the ABV comes through after the swallow as a pleasant warmth. An exceptional effort.

A slightly hazy golden color with a thick eggshell head. A little bit of lacing with good lasting power. The aroma is a sort of spicy pilsner nose with some piny hop character. The flavor has a really nice balance of a mild vanilla caramel flavor and a solid bitter character. There is a definite presence of alcohol in the flavor as well. A solid oily texture without much carbonation. Leaves a slight bitterness on the tongue.

Color of new motor oil with a nice two finger head that does not last. Carbonation is medium at best. Aroma offers hop, and earth. Malt aroma is very subdued. Flavor is a nice balance of malt and hop with some fruit. Some bread and caramel also can be tasted. A nice little zing in the middle of the tongue. The feel is somewhat oily and sticky and is not full bodied as per the commercial description. A nice beer, though.

This is the beer which I judge all others by. Each spring I watch the local stores for this to hit the shelves and then buy them out. The only thing I would improve on this beer is a bit more aroma, but thats a very minor thing. I have tried several other maibocks as it is my favorite style, and this beer stands alone.

Pale orange yellow color, minimal head. Artificial carbonation. Flavor is light malt and pale hop. Typical average Maibock type of beer. Light palate. Not much to say here, seems pretty average for the style.

Appearance: Pours a light orangey body topped with a thin, white ring of bubbles. Smell: Aroma of citrus, light grapefruit, with a bit of butterscotch candy and a dash of apple juice. Taste: Pale malts with a butterscotch sweetness. Sip of apple juice. Citrusy hop character with a slight bitterness. Finishes with a tart fruitiness. A bit of the abv sneaks into the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Slight stickiness. Drinkability: About as fun as being eaten by sand weevils.

Bottle, part of a sampler pack, I did not enjoy this beer at all. Perhaps I don’t particularly enjoy Heller bocks, perhaps, because this beer is usually available in the Spring, and I bought it in the dead of Winter, it wasn’t that good. Effervescent and springy, like a diving board. Not great in a beer, but good in a diving board....although it looked good in the glass!

Bottle courtesy of csbosox. Pours a lightly hazy dark gold with a loose, frothy, off-white head that laces nicely. The nose actually matches up pretty well with the commercial description: pale, Munich and faint pilsner malts with noticeable Hallertau hops in the background. The Cascades and Mt. Hood are less discernible. Light to medium-bodied, soft and slick with a dry and lightly spicy/bitter finish. The flavor is sweet, bready and caramel malt up front with light earthy hops at the finish. This is a fairly tasty brew, but there’s something missing that keeps it from being "just right". Thanks for bringing back this interesting brew, Chris.
