A shining example of the true European Pilsner style beer, Schell's Pilsner is brewed with 100 percent barley malt, where the imported German Hallertau hops flavor is showcased. Its full hop characteristic and delicate aroma were developed in Pilsn, Czechoslavakia around 1840. This style was widely copied by early American breweries. Over the years, however, it has been lost to the much lighter-bodied, low-hopped relatives we refer to as American "Premium" beer.
Schell's Pilsner has won many awards, including medals from the prestigious Great American Beer Festival.
Ingredients: 100% Pale malt, domestic Cascade, and imported Hallertau hops.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2013 Big fan of August Schell brewery. They’ve been at it a long time, and New Ulm is serious German beer drinking country so they have to do it good. Their Pilsner is one of the beers I come back to fairly regularly, a 12 pack is in my basement fridge right now. It’s everything a basic workhorse pilsener should be. Hallertau hops, bold body, crisp, clean. It’s what you wish more ’American’ style beers were like...instead of being stripped of any personality. If you’re having a summer gathering and want something for the folks who are used to bud, coors, mgd, stock up on Schell’s pils and serve them this instead. Still a beer they can embrace, but so much more quality.

Clear brownish yellow. Hard water, lemon curd, honey aroma. Light vanilla and lactic notes. Clean enough, never unpleasant.

Subdued, mostly sweet grain and honey nut Cheerios flavor. Moments of lemon acidity and clangy metallic notes.

This example lacks in both body and carbonation level. The finish shows a flash of saaz like spice and dry grass, and mutes itself quickly.

Pours a clear golden color with white head. Cereal grains and some light bread on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes clean.

Tap at Pizza Luce Hopkins. Served in a pint glass. Aroma leaves a lot to be desired....the other reviews are pretty right on....definitely a grassy, earthy smell and taste. It reminds me of a cheap beer you?d bring college party. Maybe a slight step up. Taste falls off table (although it probably was never on) at the end. I would avoid this one.

Its a pretty basic, pretty decent pilsner. Bready, decent grassy hop profile. Tried at the brewery with Vaughn and Amanda.

As a pilsener this was quite nice flavourful and hoppy. Thanks GV for this one. Much better than most pilseners.

Best by 24JUN13 It’s a yellow beer with a solid sheet of fine, bone white foam that seems unrelenting. Smells like grain, hints of corn, some sweetness, some metal. Flavor is what I would consider pretty hoppy for the style; sharp musty hops with some hints of resin and metal alongside a nice crisp malt undertow. Medium bodied with moderate carb and a nice dry finish. Nice beer.

From a bottle in a variety pack. Pours yellow to light amber with quite a bit of white head. Light fresh taste with some hint of hops. Could be a little crisper but not bad. Much better than the "lights" or "lites".
