COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A top-fermented, dark ale brewed in the true German style. Made with Pale 2-row, Munich, Caramel, Chocolate and Black barley malts, this is a full-bodied ale that offers great depth. The word ‘delicious’ doesn’t do this beer justice.
Now available as a Winter seasonal in November and December.

(Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a small creamy beige head. Aroma of nuts, toffee, vinous, cocoa, and cookie dough. Flavor of toasted malt and licorice with some sourness in the finish.

Pours a very dark practically opaque with a short-lived tan head that subsides into a thin ring. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and milk chocolate with some German bready yeasty character and noble hops. Body starts with a full, heavily carbonated caramel malty sweetness turning more bitter and dry toward the mildly earthy bittersweet finish. Fairly true to style and a nice altbier.

Bottle courtesy of Dalzale. Pours brown with a thin white head. Smells of roses, dark fruit, some citrus. Tastes earthy and sweet with some carameland a nice spicy bite on the finish.

Thanks to Drnk_Mcdermott for this one. Pours burnt sienna with a medium off-white head. Aroma of malt, dark fruit, caramel, cabernet, hops, and slight puke (which makes sense, because puke and dark chocolate both contain butyric acid, and this one had a big dark chocolate taste...I thought it was a schwarzbier before I logged on). Tastes malty, with black licorice, caramel, nuts, some hops, and raw cocoa flavor. Medium palate, with a smooth finish. As it warmed, I got a cherry touch from it. Nice style.

Bottled. Poured clear cola brown with a short-lived cap of off-white head. The aroma was very sweet with caramel and chocolate leading.. almost a little cherry there, too.. iced tea and cola emerged as it warmed.. very approachable. The flavor was sweet again with chocolate, black patent, and molasses leading.. some earthy and vanilla accents.. bitterness was light, and it was a tad spicy on the back-end. Light-medium bodied with low-ish carbonation on the palate.. scratchy and grainy at times.. OK flow. This was sweet and very easy to drink, but it wasn’t too enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours a bruin body with an off white head. Malty body with light roasted malt tones, hint so coco and caramel with a light sweetness. THin body with a soft roasted bitterness to finish pretty good.

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2006 Pouring a dark mahagony color with a quickly vanishing brown head, this has a mildy smoky aroma mixed with burnt chocolate. Not a bad roasted flavor, the chocolate coming through on the finish. It’s a little gravelly on the throat. Not too bad... but that’s not a great endorsement.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2003 Original Rate 3 June, '02 This is the beer that started my beer tasting quest many years ago, so it holds a special place in my heart/stomach. Dark blown color with a dark cream thick head. Chocolate and roast malt flavors along with a mind hop bitterness. Very satisfying. Rating 8/4/9/3/19. RERATE 30 Sept, '03 OK so my benevolence for this brew should be over. I still enjoy this brew, but perhaps my praises are based on this being the epiphany of brews. Chocolate and green hops aroma. Rich and thick in palate. A bit thin in flavor with caramel mocha flavors dominating.
