The recipe for Snowstorm changes every year. We’ve made everything from Stouts to Scotch Ales to fruit beers. This year, we decided to pay homage to the Monastic beers of Belgium. Brewed with six malts and a touch of Turbinado sugar, Snowstorm 2007 has a complex malt character, hints of raisins, dark fruit and rum.

From a 12-oz. bottle, this pours a medium amber with reddish overtones. Initial tan head settles down quickly, leaving some lacing. Fruity, nutty aroma with hints of alcohol. First taste is nutty caramel nougat with some vanilla and apricot in the background. Sweetens as it warms; leaving a touch of rum on the tongue. Very smooth mouthfeel. One of the best beers I’ve had this season.

(12oz. Bottle courtesy of Headbanger). Aroma is a roasted malt and alcohol scent. Color is a deep amber with light carbonation and a thin head. Taste is malty and toasted. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a smooth feel. Finish comes in with a malty caramel taste that has a slight toasted flavor and some nice fruity yeast tones. After taste is sweet with the caramel lingering in a bit. This is a very good brew.

Got this in the bottle from my favorite beer distributor. I owe him for this one! I had no idea what to expect! The pour was much darker than I expected. Solid malt flavors. There are dried fruit flavors with warming spice undertones. Atouch of smoke in the aftertaste. A really nice brew that I’d recommend to anyone!

Pours out a clear reddish light brown color. A malty, bready fruit aroma. A nice medium white head. Flavors of plum and raisin with a brandy, yeasty malt finish. Very little hops. Alcohol taste is present. A very nice highly drinkable medium bodied brew. This is a real find especially for the modest price of $10.99 for a 12 pack.

Poues a deep amber color with a thin, tan creamy head. Rich flavor of sweet raisins, slight caramel, and, yes, a little banana. I really enjoyed this Dubbel.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2007 [ABR/Re-Rate: Bottle] Pours amber with a small cream head. Aroma is yeasty, sweet, some malt, rasins, alcohol, white wine, brown sugar. The taste is similar to the aroma with more malt and spice and a very light bitterness in the finish. Good mouthfeel, decent finish. A very enjoyable Abbey Dubbel.

Bottle. Clear light brown with a small off white head and an ever persistent ring of lace. Holy crap! This is the real deal! Smells like a Dubbel, tastes like a Dubbel, but I know I only paid ten bucks for a twelver. I feel like a criminal. Classic rum and dark fruit aromas and flavors with a little spicy yeast thrown in. Sweet but fairly dry(I don’t get it, either) with a little alcohol warmth and bite. Extreme drinkability. This must be fairly potent because I can feel the effects already. Proof that this brewery of German lager heritage truly loves beer in all forms. Thanks, Ted
