Commercial Description:
As the days grow shorter and colder in Bavaria, shoppers exhausted from a day at the open air market look forward to stopping by their local for a nourishing glass of the seasonal specialty: Weihnachtsbier. Snowstorm 2008 was designed with the cold days of winter in mind. Reddish brown in color with a complex maltiness yielding hints of spicy rye, sourdough, and chocolate. Brewed with nine different malts, including copious amounts of Munich and a touch of Rye.

Bottle. Skunker alert. Poured a very little head and poor aroma. There is a belgian taste to this fruity and poor palate. There is few redeeming qualities, again. it may be an oxidized bottle.

possibly one of the first time August shell hasnt disappointed me. Fruity malts on the nose. dark amber pour with nice frothy tan head. Delicious sweet fruit and malt notes from start to finish. Very nice mouth feel and very nice on the palate.

I can’t beleive I didn’t rate this last winter. To me, the perfect winter lager. Dark and rich and nourishing to the mind and soul. Malt charachter that is so enriching that you don’t think about hops and just sit back and get fat, thinking about spring but still smiling that it is winter and you can still drink this.

Dark pour that glowers deep reddish amber when held up to the light. Tan head. Aroma of malt sopped bread. Slightly sweed flavor with sourdough and rye overtones. Mild hoppiness adds just a bit of bitter to the finish. Overall, smooth, well balanced, flavorful. I’m drinking it in July and it suits the summer fine.

Clear reddish orange with a quickly dissolving tan head. Aroma of lots of malt, including rye, sourdough, caramel and dough, with just a touch of sugar. Sounds pretty good for sandwich bread. Taste of burnt caramelized sugar at first but then leads way to the bread aisle with sourdough, rye and a touch of sugar, caramel and salt. Interesting concoction that I seemed to enjoy more with each sip.

Here’s an interesting style. 12oz bottle. Sweet, malty aroma, not much too it. Deep amber-brown color with a nice off white head. Smooth and creamy, with a slightly sour Rye edge to it. Fruity in some respects, lots of mellow malt character. Easy drinking, relatively true to style, this is a pretty cool offering.

Dark brown with hints of red. Massive off-white head spilled over the top of the glass and is mostly lasting, leaving patchy lacing. Nutty, yeasty aroma rounded out by over-ripened banana. Mildly sweet malt flavor, some rye graininess, mild yeastiness, and almonds. Rather thin bodied.

Lots of yeast in this beer. I also taste rye. A little sour, and surprisingly, the yeast of a weizen beer. Good, like most years of Snowstorm.
