I canít beleive I didnít rate this last winter. To me, the perfect winter lager. Dark and rich and nourishing to the mind and soul. Malt charachter that is so enriching that you donít think about hops and just sit back and get fat, thinking about spring but still smiling that it is winter and you can still drink this.

This $1.49 bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a very large sized head of finely sized tan colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a strongly carbonated transparent cola brown colored body. The aroma was spicy malty and musty. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow hoppy aftertaste. The mild flavor contained notes of roasted malt and mild spice. A decent quaff-able brew that I would consider drinking again.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2012 From memory, a very malty, unique German style lager. Has a very strong rye flavor that is incredibly good and is in general among the best lagers Iíve ever had.

Pours hazy orange with white head, aroma includes notes of rye, bread, touch of caramel. Taste is nice creamy caramel, bread, with notes of spice and rye towards the finish. Very interesting brew!

Mahogany in color. Malty aroma. Flavors of malt, cherries and dried fruit, with earthy hints. Interesting and one to savor, best at cellar temperature.

Color is a very light ruby/brown. Pours a slightly tan head that doesnít last to long. Not very much lacing observed.
The aroma is of solid malts. You can definately tell that it is a rye beer from the smell. There is also a hint of dark chocolate and licorice lingering around.
The taste is mainly malts. Carmel is present as well as some spices. Dark chocolate is also present.
Mouthfeel is very creamy. The beer is cold, but itís as if it warms your mouth, very interesting.
Overall, this was an interesting beer and one I am glad I got to try. I havenít tasted anything like this and I would recommend it.

possibly one of the first time August shell hasnt disappointed me. Fruity malts on the nose. dark amber pour with nice frothy tan head. Delicious sweet fruit and malt notes from start to finish. Very nice mouth feel and very nice on the palate.

Bottle. Skunker alert. Poured a very little head and poor aroma. There is a belgian taste to this fruity and poor palate. There is few redeeming qualities, again. it may be an oxidized bottle.

Dark pour that glowers deep reddish amber when held up to the light. Tan head. Aroma of malt sopped bread. Slightly sweed flavor with sourdough and rye overtones. Mild hoppiness adds just a bit of bitter to the finish. Overall, smooth, well balanced, flavorful. Iím drinking it in July and it suits the summer fine.

Clear reddish orange with a quickly dissolving tan head. Aroma of lots of malt, including rye, sourdough, caramel and dough, with just a touch of sugar. Sounds pretty good for sandwich bread. Taste of burnt caramelized sugar at first but then leads way to the bread aisle with sourdough, rye and a touch of sugar, caramel and salt. Interesting concoction that I seemed to enjoy more with each sip.
