Pours a nice looking amber with a medium sized tan head. Nose is spices with a whiff of hops. Fairly creamy on the palate, the taste is malty with some caramel and ginger notes. Slight hop flavor on the finish, still rather sweet though. A good winter warmer.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 bhensonb (8991) - Woodland, California, USA - MAR 24, 2013
Bottle from Andy (Guerde). Pours dark copper amber. Not much head. Aroma is a bit spicy. Med body. Flavor is fruity, spicy, a little earthy. It’s med fruit, not dark. It drinks very nicely, has good overall impact. Might consider there to be some toffee characteristic. Finishes pretty balanced. Good beer. Just leaves me uncertain about flavor components. Which is ok.

12oz bottle. A pretty cool, under the radar beer. Amber-tan body, filtered. Not much head, fades into some oily traces. Sweet, faint spearmint and other spices in the aroma. It certainly isn’t the best example of the style, it still has a sort of budget feel to it, but it does almost manage to actually capture the essence of Biere de Garde....OK maybe not. Tolerable.

Nearly clear, copper to amber pour with a small, blotchy beige head. Aroma of intense raw yeast, caramel, tree fruit, banana, hints of toast, caramel and rubber. Flavor is just as intensely yeasty, lots of bread and plain old bottom of the fermenter sludge, banana, cloves, anise, light caramel and dried grassy plants. Medium body, with an oily feel throughout and a little chalkiness to the finish, and light, but sharp carbonation. Im not a fan, it’s all yeast and spice. Reminds me of what I remember of Celis Grand Cru. I haven’t had that in several years, but I think I liked it better.

Clear copper with a large taupe crown that fades slowly away. Aroma of moderate funk with banana, caramel, spices, mild fruit and some bready malt. Taste is yeasty with banana, spices, bready malt, mild tomato and a spicy and somewhat funky finish. Nice change of pace.

Pours amber with a medium sized head. Aroma is quite christmasy with hints of yeast, malts, a bit of banana and a whole lot of Christmas spice. The taste follows nicely with very sweet tones that are complimented by spice on the finish. Overall a great beer for a blistery day of football

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, Minnesota. Pours a clear copper amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that dissipates to a film top and white ring with some spotty lacing. Aroma of light banana yeast, multi-grain malt, some white bread dough and a touch of holiday potpourri. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of Belgian-like yeast, hint of molasses, light raisin, citrus/floral hops with a hint of nutmeg. Finish is mildly spicy with lingering yeast aftertaste.
