Amber with an off-white head. The aroma is full of toffee. The flavor is a bit more complex. I get some toffee, caramel and grass, as well as a medium amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Tap at Dexters. Deep brown-burgundy body, respectable foamy beige head. The aroma isnít so hop forward, more of a brewhouse soapy yeast thing going on. Woody, bland English taste. Really dulled out, some Ale yeast tones. The malt bill isnít so exciting, tastes like sugar made the ABV. Interesting in theory. I suppose it tastes like a really bad IPA, circa 1850.

Very dark brown beer, with a good-sized white head on top. Hops in the aroma, and the flavor is not something I am familiar with. There is sweetness but also lots of hops in this beer, and a considerable malt backbone. Somewhat thick and heavy, a good palate.

Bottled. Poured clear, deep reddish-amber with a tight-bubbled beige head. The aroma picked up toasted darker fruits, molasses, vanilla, and light nutty notes.. some floral accents.. warm and welcoming. The flavor found more warm fruits, biscuity notes, and a touch of maple at the core.. some vanilla and sweet aged caramel on the next layer.. darker fruits and peppery yeast on the warm finish. Medium-bodied with moderate-plus carbonation on the palate.. I rather enjoyed it.

On tap at Dexters in Madison, pours a very dark brown with a creamy off white head, aroma is of slight hops with some earthy notes coming through and dark fruit, the flavor is full of dark fruit on the front end of the drink with a finish of slight hops, sweetness in the finish as well, different beer.

Clear copper with a medium tan head that recedes moderately with some thick ass lacing. Aroma of toffee, mildly skunked noble hops and pale malt. Taste of toffee, pale malt, noble hops, brown sugar light alcohol and a bit of darker fruits. Finishes up a tad peppery.

Bottle from Guerde. Thanks for this ridiculously antique concept beer. Love anything to do with Burton upon Trent. Pours clear ruddy copper with a slight beige head. Aroma is mostly floral, with some hints of treacle, and then some fairly roasted malt. Full bodied - very oily/thicky. Flavor is pretty roasted malt with a lot of floral/earthy hop. This ale is not just a slight nod to English ales. Itís a sturdy, hoppy, malty wonderful construct. Chip butty and oat cakes at the Burton Bridge Brewery. Stick to the oat cakes! Very, very nice ale.
