Papsoe (25085) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 26, 2005
(Bottle 50 cl) Comes as "Altbayreuther Braunbier - Das Echte". Dark amber - slightly hazy - with a small, creamy head. A touch of metal in the nose. Weird underlying slight tartness. Lightly burned malt character with a pronounced dry, lightly bitter finish. Not very full-bodied - actually a bit watery. Very unusual and atypical German beer. And not really your typical Dunkel. 230605

Bottle. Quite malty, a little yeasty aroma. Clear brown colour, sparkling. Small, big-bubbled head. Malty, slightly roasted flavour. Quite high carbonation. Aftertaste is just bitter. Flavour starts off nice, but unfortunately fades away after a few sips.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2008 On tap at Berliner Bierfestival. The other rating is done at home, with fewer previous beers, and since the newer rating is lower, I let the old one stand. It was served with a clear, copper body, and a beige head. Quite malty nose, with some hints of vegetables that I didn’t order. The same goes for the flavor, where some corn are present. I’m not fond of corn. It can be nice once in a while, to have a BBQ-ed corncob with butter and salt, but that’s enough for me. I don’t need it in salads or on burgers, and I certainly don’t need it in my beer. The mouthfeel is medium. Except for the vegetables it is a quite pleasant beer, still a bit boring. 4-4-4-3-9-2.4. (070803)

Bottled as Altbayreuther Braunbier. Clear, copper-colored with a beige head. Weak but pleasant aroma of malt and caramel. Caramel, malt and some hops in the flavor. Medium body. A bit boring but not bad. (060929)

Clear orange brown with a large beige head. Aroma is malty, roasted malt, caramel and dusty hops. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Finish is dry and a bit dusty. This feels more like a brown ale than a dunkel, and that’s not a bad thing. 150211
