Had this one in Bayeruth at Schinner’s Brauhaus. It poured a dark brown with red tones. Big off-white head. Nose of clean malts and maybe some chocolae. Medium body. Even though it seems heavy because of its color, when you closed your eyes it was simply heavenly. I really liked this one.

pivo (2540) - GERMANY - JAN 23, 2005
Cereal, dusty, mustard seed and vegetable nose - funky! (but not necessarily good). Clear brown color and low head. Malty front but vegetable tastes - cabbage. Burnt roasted end. Thin and quick. Not so good.

UPDATED: MAR 23, 2005 Jan 2, 2005(6,3,5,2;11 - 2.7) No head, wonderful red brown amber color. Cellery, malt, mustard seeds and cereal nose - yes, weird. Cereal malt, slightly sweet but intense cabbage taste and...I’m not a big friend of cabbage even though I’m a Kraut. RERATE: Bottle was Altbayreuther Braunbier which the brewer confirmed is the former name of Schinner Altfranken Braunbier. One of the Rerates that suprised my by the difference in the outcome. This time I noted: Nice brown red color, fast diminishing head, soft carbonation. Molasses, honey and caramel toffee nose. Very clean in taste and smell. Sweet honey malt and cookie taste - medium lasting, nice but a bit to sweet for my taste.

500ml fliptop bottle: pours clear brown with a medium sized beige head. Light aroma of roasted malt followed by some chocolate. Flavor is lightly roasted malt and a bit of chocolate with a slight sweetness. Medium to light bodied. A pretty nice beer that goes down easily.

Pours a dark brown with a frothy beige head. Aroma is nutty and slightly roasted malt. Taste is clean, fairly crisp, slightly roasted and some chocolate points. Fairly boring but all around good beer.
