Growler filled 3 hours ago. Wonderful combination of hop aroma and sweet caramel malts. The color is a red amber and absolutely clear and clean. Nice head that mostly disappears but the last bit lingers forever. The beer is not bitter. Its malt sweetness is very nice. The hop flavor is intoxicating. Very smooth. Not harsh at all. The body is smooth and almost silky. Damn this is good beer. This shows that American IPAs do not have to be 100 IBU hop tea. This beers bitterness is subdued by the very nice malt sweetness. The hop flavor is perfectly done. This beer is enough to make you buy a kegerator and as many kegs as you can get your hands on. It is wonderfully drinkable and incredibly flavorful.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle and served in my GI IPA tulip: Coppery hued with a nice thick foamy head which left very good lacework upon the glassware, some very small floaties. The aroma has a big hit of juicy citrus and tropical fruit esters along with a usual resiny, piney, leafy and spicy hop tones. Slight toffee, sugary, and bready malt vapours noted too. The taste starts with a profile similar to the nose, heavy juicy fruit bubblegum along with slightly more restrained resiny and leafy hop bitterness before the sweeter and bready malt come around for some balance. There is a nice peppery and clove hop spice character that kept this interesting but alas there is also a sugary component that lingers on too far towards the finish. The mouth feel is lush and properly carbonated with a slight alcohol presence around the edges of the palate. First off, this is borderline DIPA with the bigger malt bill and alcohol. Secondly, I wish this was more towards the San Diego style and finished cleaner (sans the syrupy sugary quality). That keeps this from achieving it overall best. I would try this again just to see what a different day may present and I am happy to see a Schlafly beer in my local store I have not had before.

UPDATED: JUN 11, 2011 I picked this up while in Warsaw, IN, enjoyed at home in Chicago. I wish Schlafly would have distribution here. Pour is a vibrant orange/amber mixture with a thin white head that dissipates rather quickly. Aroma is just very rich in hops but also has nice caramel notes. Taste is unbelievably smooth for an 8% ABV, and it is rather sweet for an IPA but still retains a good amount of bitterness while being very crisp. Very happy to have picked this up.
------- from enjoying this as part of a sampler at the Schlafly Tap Room in St Louis, MO. Appearance very bright cloudy gold with a rich white head.
Aroma like a smelly, sweaty gym sock from stinky hops. Mostly hops in the nose and not much else but its not bad, its potent.. Taste is pretty smooth with a bitter bite. The ’earthy’ hops are the central component for sure, also a bit of orange citrus and faint malts in the back end. This is a pretty good one, nicely carbonated and full flavored.

12 oz bottle with BIG thanks to mrbunn. Pours an attractive, cloudy amber with a minimal, slightly lacy white foam head. Aroma is strongly of pine hops. Taste is sweet before bitter, with a decent dose of floral flavors, herbs, and pine. Full mouthfeel and palate, lasting bitterness that is offset by the odd sweetness that I can’t quite place in terms of taste... Very smooth, in spite of the high ABV. Nice, glad I got to try it! Thanks Joel.
