Exploding with hop flavor and aroma, this citrus/piney/floral ale has enough of a malt backbone to stand up to the intense bitterness.

Citrusy, piney aromas. Hoppy citrus flavors with a malt backbone to round it out. Overall it is a very very good IPA.

12 oz bottle purchased at MDL in Overland Park, Kansas. Brewed with love on 05 03 2011. Pour is a lightly hazed golden with a frothy two inch white head. Aroma is catty resin, grass, slight floral and a toasty malt. Taste is the resin cattiness right away, turning to a bitter citrus peel, than a bunch of the earthy grass finishing with a thinner toasted malt. Palate is medium to thin bodied, chewy mouth feel, and the dry bitter finish. Started nice, though I was hoping for a bit more body and flavor to the finish. Regardless, nice beer.

Apricot colored with a cm of white head. Aroma is mild citrus, with all flavors more prominent in taste. Rich citrus mixes perfectly with malt, with alcohol , citrus and stonefruit into the finish.

This is a very nice IPA. Poured copper with about three fingers of head. Great lacing as the beer goes through the glass. Good hop balance and just a pinch to the palate.

12oz bottle from State Line. Faintly hazy deep orange pour, with a medium prickly carbonation. Nose is certainly quite grassy and citric, but with floral undertones and even a bit of honey, like a pre-pubescent Hopslam. Mouthfeel is medium, lightly oily, with what seems to be a bit of a bite, a nice effect that balances out the sweetness (which comes on just a hint too strong as the body dissipates). Flavors are really appealing, definitely more grassy and bitter though the sweetness is still very much present. Good, well-balanced brew overall, wish Iíd snagged a sixer.

Bottle. Amber pour with a very short, fizzy white head. Aroma is grapefruit, pine resin, citrus oils, and caramel. Taste is big citrus, pine, grapefruit juice and caramel with sweet malt throughout. Body is medium with a fizzy carbonation. Lingering hop bitterness and soft oily notes. Ends a touch sweeter with more malt and caramel mixed with the citrus rind, grapefruit pulp and pine needles. Tasty IPA.

So Iíll say that Iíve experience some variation with this beer, but not within batches. Last year, this IPA was one of the better surprises that I can remember. Hoppy as hell with a great mildly sweet malt backbone. It kind of tasted like a lighter DFH 90 minute. This year, the beer is green as hell and the malty goodness isnít really there. Disappointing but at least itís fresh.
