SubstanceT (1087), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Nov 4, 2007 Rating 1081, on tap at the Bottleworks on Nov 2, 2007. So this beer is kind of why I love microbrews and the people that work at them. Went to the bar and asked this guy who was working what is the maplewood like. He’s like "This is what its like" and hands me a sample that had to be like 6 oz full. Took a swig and couldnt really tell if it was an amber or a sweeter pale and asked for the bartenders help. He was remarkably entertaining and a good source of information.
Beer pours dark but clear with no head. Nose is sweet and suggary. Taste good hop character but again more sweetness with sugar and maple syrup like character. As this thing warmed up the maple came out and the hops faded to much more of a amber with syrup rather than pale with syrup. Delightful.
sneagrams3 (1454), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 16, 2008 Tasted 9/13/08. 2008 Schalfly Hop in the City. Filtered with a honey amber hue. Bone white head. Nutty, sweet aromas. Medium bodied with sweet malts and a sticky finish. Slight hop character. Tight effervescence and mildly bitter. Touch acidic and hoppy. Lingering malt finish. esjaygee (830), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA May 28, 2008 Amber with thin quickly diminishing white head. Aroma of light grassy hops and light sweet malts. Taste of maple and other sweet malts with a mild hop finish. Smooth malty body with mild bitterness and a sweet finish. Strykzone (1023), Wood River, Illinois, USA Apr 15, 2008 Golden body with a small but long lasting head. Very nice and enjoyable flavor. The maple syrup comes through and it is smooth and nicely balanced. Gets thin late in the glass. drfabulous (743), Columbia, Missouri, USA Apr 13, 2008 Schlafly Repeal of Prohibition, on tap. No maple. Bit bland and odd. A bit of a let down for what I expected.
